Right, but you’re forgetting siding --> air gap—>sheetwood----> studbay with foam or glass----> drywall. Thats 4 layers of material to absob soundwaves and displace them. So again it just is a silly joke, its older than you are, find some better material. As i originally stated saying that makes you sound like an ignorant asshole. We also will do offset studbays to increase the material and differentiate the sound path. The engineering is cool. If you’d stop acting like a smart ass you might find it interesting.

I’ve been seeing the cardboard joke for 30 years now and im stuck in a house with actual cardboard siding, because again sheathing isn’t load bearing. Its crazy that americans built $20,000 mobile homes and housed all the rural poor in them, its crazy they had cardboard walls. but again this was all 30+ years ago, we build things better now, ya’ll can retire the joke, the only people living in cardboard houses are like me, poor and destitute with no other options.

edit: Jesus Christ people don’t understand that cheap ass tiny homes 8 foot apart with no sound barriers really is comparable to apartment walls because the air gap is tiny as fuck and sound is absolutely going to bleed through those cheap ass walls and windows. It is Texas where they don’t require that much insulation which would reduce sound in a cooler climate.
A well built apartment building is going to bleed far less sound. I have never heard my neighbors through the walls in my current apartment, which is at least 40+ years old when they built decent ones, and barely heard them through walls when I lived in post 2000 cheap as construction.
Nothing says build quality and material quality quite like “affordable housing”. It must be nice being in a universe where everyone can afford quality and modern housing!
These things look cheaply built which means the windows and walls are not soundproofed or anything like that and you will hear everything going on outside because every wall is an exterior wall. An apartment trades the barely effective 6 foot air gap for slightly heavier construction which reduces sound between apartments.

It was obviously hyperbole. When it comes to soundproofing, sheet wood is about as effective as cardboard, though.
Probably even worse; cardboard (like used for boxes) has a lot of air pockets in it, whereas a ‘solid’ wooden board probably adds resonance.
