Windows 11's KB5120998 optional update is breaking custom cursors and resetting wallpapers to black. Here's why you should hold off for now.

Lucky me, I’m stuck on 24H2.

I put a few hours into poring over various log files, trying to decipher vague error messages, before finally saying “fuck it.”

Oh, Microslop… How far you have sunk.

Fuck Windows. 2026 truly is the year of Linux. Finally!

Gotta love that AI generated, reviewed, and shipped code.

I want so badly to switch to Linux on my main machine, but I have some projects of my on Adobe InDesign, anyone has an actual good alternative that can read InDesign files?

Can you not use wine or proton to run InDesign? I don’t know shit about shit though, I’m still using CS2 😂

Switch to linux but keep your old windows on a partition or different hard drive for whenever you want to work on that stuff.

For the people not using Linux in the comment section, you can’t skip a Windows update. It’s going to happen no matter what.

I mean I guess you can adjust the registry or whatever but 90% of Windows users aren’t going to do any of that.

I could have done it and I didn’t. I updated and now my cursor is all fucked up.

You can pause Windows updates, although I’m not sure I would suggest it because they are usually patching a baotlad of security vulns.

      https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/deployment/updates-lifecycle/pause-updates-in-windows

Not defending Microsoft in any way, just pointing out that the option exists. Of course you will get updates once it unpauses, but maybe another CU down the line won’t break shit.

I’ve tried everything it eventually doesn’t update all on its own regardless of you wanting to do it or not. So I just stop trying to fight it.

It’s an optional update. It doesn’t automatically install without activating the option to do so.
