TL;DR It’s copyright.
Apparently the archive’s crawlers have been able to access material that is paywalled in a regular browser and that’s got copyright holders’ panties in a bunch.
Fuck ‘em (the people paywalling stuff).
There’s plenty of fuck 'em to go around here.
-
Fuck the people paywalling stuff
-
Fuck archive.today for all the shady shit they’ve pulled
-
Fuck Spain for blocking archive.today, it’s still a very useful resource despite the shady shit.
-
Naturally the rights holder failing to properly secure their shit is everyone else’s problem.
OK Spain. Instead of Archive.today what about those AI companies? I heard they used copyright material…
One of those paywall removers is basically Perplexity summarizing entire articles.
Specifically, in order to protect paywalls, not because Archive.Today did anything nefarious.
not because Archive.Today did anything nefarious.
They did though and should be banned for that. Got to the right answer for the wrong reasons.
Because freedom is not profitable.
oh they were circumventing the precious paywall. what a perfect excuse.
That only incentivizes people to use Tor more ,to get around bullshit bans. Nothing can truly be banned if you know the minimum necessary to “unban” yourself.
