President Donald Trump announced Sunday that he is appointing Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry as the United States Special Envoy to Greenland.
In a post on the social media platform Truth Social, Trump said Landry “understands how essential Greenland is to our National Security” and will work to advance U.S. interests in the region.
Trump’s announcement did not include details about the scope of Landry’s duties or how the role would intersect with his responsibilities as governor.
This is a developing story stay with WWL Louisiana for updates.
Trump and his fascist cronies can fuck right off.
The same Jeff Landry that just got involved in his states flagship university’s circus like search for a head football coach? Fucking hell
I can only imagine this would improve Louisiana by removing part of the problems.
What’s the actual plan though? Because it seems like he’s doing that thing where oligarchs don’t send the guy they believe is most capable, they send the guy who’s the most loyal because they know he’s willing to keep his mouth shut about the details and just do as he’s been told.
Also, there are some odd links between Louisiana and Russia that make the Landry pick possibly even more concerning than if he went with anybody else.
He’s still the governor, unfortunately.
Landry “understands how essential Greenland is to our National Security” and will work to advance U.S. interests in the region.
Well, we all know what that means.

Of course! It all makes so much sense. Everything is going so swell in Louisiana right now. Any kind of fucked up reality where this isn’t happening would be chaos.
We recently saw the guy who created a whooping cough epidemic in Louisiana and got caught trying to cover up the death of infants that occured under his watch at the state health department, then get promoted to number 2 in charge of national health at the CDC.
The only logical next step is obviously to catapult the guy who created that guy onto an international stage as the envoy to Greenland before we can put a final pin in this magical year🥂

This makes me angry.
This comment would work on basically any Trump news story
These pretzels are making me thirsty
I mean, Greenland (Denmark) can always say “no thanks”, right?
How would that work? Just PNG him before he arrives?
They could say it was a drug boat.
Given the current US leadership, it probably is.

I just want to point out that “political interference with LSU athletics” is sine qua non for any Louisiana governor, not just this guy. This is a state where the LSU football coach is by far the highest paid state employee in the entire state. Huey Long was known to lead the marching band onto the field.

What? LSU coaches are of course not immune from criticism, from anyone. The hot seat is real, and the school has committed to some massive contract buy-outs lately.
I’m just saying that the LSU coaching job is an inherently political position in the state; it’s been that way for a long time; and it’s by no means unique to Jeff Landry.

Did you outsource your reading comprehension to ChatGPT, too?

US-hate aside, why exactly would being under US rule instead of Denmark’s rule be bad for anyone?
Greenland has a population of about 60,000 people. Total. There’s not much development or investment happening in the country. Most people are quite poor and drinking alcohol is what they typically do for ‘fun.’ Depression and suicide is rampant. Everyone in Greenland knows multiple people who have killed themselves.
I get that it’s cool to hate on everything the US does and colonialism is “always bad,” but if we can put our reddit-brains aside and actually think like human beings, then we might see how the US taking ownership of Greenland could benefit more than ‘just the people at the top.’
US-hate aside, why exactly would being under US rule instead of Denmark’s rule be bad for anyone?
Because Trump and his MAGA goons are involved, that’s why. I wouldn’t put it past them to enslave Greenlanders and send them down mines. They’re fucking psychopaths. Trump makes Leopold II look like an all right guy. There is no way that this idiocy would play out to the benefit of the people of Greenland.
Hate to break it to you but American Exceptionalism is dead.
The rest of the world does not want to be American.
Glad you speak for all of them.
The people in Greenland already spoke for themselves, they don’t want to be part of the US
Wow, this feels like the twilight zone.
I am pretty sure I’ve heard this exact same argument before, more than once, but instead of Greenland being taken over by the U.S., first it was my own blue city being taken over by conservative leadership. Then, it was about federal takeovers of all blue U.S. cities and states. Now Greenland is supposed to view their own invasion and takeover by a war mongering hot mess (who can’t even provide basic health care and housing for their own citizens) as a net positive? Are you fucking kidding me?
Basically it boils down to, “this is for your own good, and if you refuse to see that, you’re just afraid of progress because you’ve been conditioned to fail.” Is that right?

“‘Someday Louisiana is going to get good government, and when they do, they ain’t gonna like it.’ I think we’re ready to take that risk.”
(BTW, We’re still dead last in just about every one of those metrics they mention, and quality of life has taken such a dramatic nosedive over the past year that it would almost be funny if I wasn’t living here.)
Anyway, the Louisiana Comeback campaign was created by State Policy Network (SPN) Louisiana affiliate, the Pelican Institute. SPN was founded by Heritage Foundation board member Thomas Roe with the goal of creating a network of think tanks across the U.S. to target state level policy by following the same strategy that allowed Heritage to hijack and dismantle many federal policies.
Basically, SPN creates the narrative and collects the “research” that is then passed out to members of ALEC, who then cite that research as evidence that justifies the whacky and unethical laws they create.
🥱
Good reddit-logic. Now take your upvotes.
My apologies, I guess I’m just “conditioned to fail.”
Whew, that’s an ignore.
Except you replied?
…how would any of those things improve under US rule?
Investment and commerce, for one. More people would be moving to Greenland, more work would be getting done, more money will be getting spent. There will also be a mixing of cultures, which could give some hope and a new perspective to those who are stuck in their ways.
Or they could just keep doing what they’re doing, lol. I’m sure doing nothing will improve their living conditions compared to having the wealthiest nation in history invest.
No one’s interested in your fascist government.
Funny you list all the benefits yet provide nothing to back it up. “More people will move here and spend more money”… ok… why would people want to move there now that it’s under U.S. rule? Just because? Lol.
Not to mention the Nordic countries (which includes Greenland) have some of the highest standards of living in the world. While America on the other hand spends the most money on Healthcare yet has one of the worst systems of any developed nation.
So it seems being under US rule would make things worse for the people of Greenland but yeah, go on about your imaginary reasons I guess.
More people would be moving there to support the strip mining operations.
You didn’t explain at all how the US “taking ownership” of Greenland would change any of those things.
