The title only mentions YouTube, Meta, and Twitch but the body of the article mentions that Kick, TikTok, and X (Formally Twitter) also. With Kick and TikTok saying that a livestream of an execution would violate their policies but with X (formally Twitter) being with YouTube, Meta, and Twitch in saying that they won’t say whether they will or not.

These are the same types of people that would bring their kids to a lynching back in the day and have a nice family picnic. Put the kids up on their shoulders so they get a good view. Vendors will be there to sell food. Make a day of it, even get ice cream after.

I wish I was kidding and making this kind of scenario up.

Well, they want to scan your face in order to be able to unlock Roblox chat. You know, to “protect” your kids. And they seemingly keep inching toward a scenario where they have your computer account traceable back to you. You know, for your “protection”.

But blasting filth like an execution out to everyone?

      No worries.

I remember all the hand wringing in the govt decades ago about media violence and video game violence and violent lyrics because “what about the children!?”

And now the govt is going to publicly livestream an execution?

And how many right wing parents will justify this because “these are criminals and murderers who deserve it!”

    Makes my head hurt.

Wonder if there will be age verification required since that’s so en vogue now.

Oh, I’m sure that TruthSocial devs are rapidly hammering out code to allow livestreaming on that platform.

Why do I fear that this’ll play in bars and people will host parties based around the stream? Surely this can’t just become part of our culture?

Because historically that’s exactly what public executions devolved into. Rowdy bloodlust entertainment.

From a recent article in The Guardian warning that viewing this kind of material can result in harm to mental health in those who watch it, a historian talks about how public executions went down in the 1800s and how even Charles Darwin Dickens weighed in on making executions non-public back in the day (emphases mine):

Prof Rosalind Crone, a historian at the Open University in the UK, said: “Public execution in England and Wales was abolished in 1868 because of persistent and increasing concern about the effects of watching hangings on the crowd. It was clear that public execution did not have a deterrent effect; in fact, sometimes the opposite.”

Crone said crowds were increasingly made up of people missing work to attend, and people who were drunk, rowdy and celebratory.

“Charles Dickens sums up the increasing objections well in his letter to the Daily News in 1846: ‘No sorrow, no salutatory terror, no abhorrence, no seriousness, nothing but ribaldry, debauchery, levity, drunkenness and flouting vice in fifty other shapes,’” she said.

A world of social media that created the word “unalive” to avoid triggering an algorithm that would bury content using the word “dead” is oscillating about a middle eastern style live execution by firing squad. Somehow, silence is the answer.

Second point. The quality of this idea reads like something a guy tripping on stimulants would think a brilliant idea.

Historically, drug addicts into depressive types of drugs like alcohol, heroin, or fentanyl will chase their drug of choice with cocaine to lessen the depressive effect.

Cause the U.S. government doesn’t need to appease the algorithm. It’s the peasants that do.

Corporate social media endorsing and distributing the State’s public executions in contravention to its own content moderation policies is full circle, Capital F, textbook, Stage 5 Fascism with a big ‘ol Swastika spinning overhead with fireworks and the national anthem. (Also see points six, nine, and twelve.)

Do they rework the algorithms, give it a special title using the word “unalive”, or just stick it in an ad space for the duration? Pretty sure the algorithms on these pages would bury the vid or auto ban the account unless they reworked some fundamental things on their sites.

They will. This is all part of the game. The reluctance is to “prove” they’re not already signed in and ready to cash in on it.

This is going to make a fortune for all of them.

(Obligatory if you watch this, you’re a fucking asshole)

“We just got a gold boy from JersLazyEye, Hey man look at bro twitch, couldn’t be me I would e taken myself out”

Imagine being executed and some mouth breather from Vermont drops a huge donno to dunk on you. We’re quickly heading into new, extremely profitable territory or executions being live streamed.

I wouldn’t be surprised if states start charging livestreamers a small licensing fee to cover the cost of the execution…grim…

If Twitch allows it then calling him “Klan Dancey” finally makes some sense
