Pentagon said execution of Nidal Malik Hasan, who killed 13 people at Fort Hood in 2009, would be broadcast live

The US is facing worldwide condemnation over a “barbaric” plan to execute a disabled man by firing squad and livestream it to the public, with critics comparing the Trump administration to dictatorships in Iran and Afghanistan.

The Pentagon confirmed on Thursday that the execution of Nidal Malik Hasan, convicted of killing 13 people at a military base at Fort Hood in Texas in 2009, would be livestreamed on 3 December.

The United Nations’ office of the high commissioner for human rights warned on Friday that broadcasting the killing would amount to a public execution and “breach the absolute prohibition of torture”.

Being from the U.S. the only time we have seen clips of (usually blurred out) executions on tv is when the U.S. was trying to convince the population that groups like Al Qaeda or such were wretched. Basically “look at how this group performs executions they are terrorists that need to be put down themselves”.

So this whole thing seems to really re-inforce the Y’all Qaeda terminology.

Al Qaeda is wretched, as is any other entity that employs terrorism to further political aims rather than limiting operations to legitimate military targets. The terrorists in charge of the MAGA movement are applying that same wretchedness in trying to shape the U.S.—and by extension the world—as they see fit, with no consideration for those they kill or otherwise harm in the process.

“and by extension, the world” yeah no. The World will dump its ties with the USA. One at a time until it is completely irrelevant. They are mostly irrelevant already. I know America likes to see everything as “inevitable”, “too big to fail” and other propaganda BS. Blockchain, AI, themselves. But they really are not. World will continue its course, with or without USA.

Yeah. Most developing countries may soon exchange one hegemony for another, a hegemony that believes in providing and promoting “benevolent development” over “degenerate America”.

The impact of American influence of course varies from region to region, but American foreign policy under Trump has become even more centered around the notion of American exceptionalism than it had been already. Several far-right movements around the world have seen bolstered success through not only inspiration from Trump’s success, but also direct financial and political support from the U.S. government.

That’s not to say that the entire world follows along, but the U.S.'s influence is by no means irrelevant.

it influences a ridiculously small portion of idiots that make a lot of noise that’s all. No other democracy has such a pool of bigots and idiots other than the US

Hi, a Brazilian here. 56,104,503 bolsonaristas (for contrast, there were 158,745,079 Brazilians registered to vote, from which only 125,275,835 went to the 2026 election day, with 53,879,538 of them having chosen to vote for the current POTBR Lula da Silva) (source, in Portuguese) doesn’t seem like a “ridiculously small” number to me…

I even wonder, given the declining approval rates regarding the current POTUS, if the “number of people who carry water for christofascism” around here exceeds that of USA, even though USA has a larger population than Brazil (iirc, something around 500 mi and 200 mi respectively).

Dude really has his head in the sand regarding the global rise of right-populist-authoritarianism. I wish it was as simple as cutting ties with this garbage country while we sort it out (or collapse entirely) but the ones with real power aren’t confined to one place. That money spends everywhere.

Yes, but this is what America voted for. Not because most Americans want it but because most Americans are simply too wrapped up in themselves to care.

Only way this could get better for Hegseth is if he got to dress Hasan in Venezuelan fishermen clothes, or an Iranian schoolgirl uniform.

This is a great example of where people like Pete Hegseth (who is inherently corrupt) cloak their identity with religious morality to disguise their truest intentions.

It’s a shame because there are great people who are religious who get cast into the same net as this, but there are definitely others who (incorrectly) believe that a specific set of incantations will absolve them of serious, unethical behaviour.

Oh but there IS an incantation that saves them:

      “I, Donald John Trump, pardon…”

That is, until we can mainstream the idea that corrupt pardons are inherently prohibited in the Constitution.

I’m inclined to agree with you. For most people their only experience of this is the movies. We hide death from the public and then wonder why so many are indifferent. It’s by design. There is a reason the news doesn’t show it anymore.

Show them. Let them feast their eyes on the horrors of the world.

These aren’t mutually exclusive positions. We’re massive pieces of shit for letting it get this bad and this is like having our noses rubbed in the shit we made while being scolded, like old ways of housetraining a dog.

That said, I still won’t be watching. They’ll consider views as support for what they’re doing, and I don’t support this.
