I’m not a fan of this “economy” thing.
If it were up to me, we’d take it out back and shoot it.
No need, it is currently dieing from autoerotic asphyxiation.
2014? I remember 2008-2009 being pretty bad, but what happened in 2014?
It’s about people’s opinions, not reality. Maybe it took that long for people to start feeling good again after the bad times.
A lot of the fallout from 08 found its way to otherwise successful businesses offering luxury services, like hotels and restaurants.
I felt better in '08 ffs
DRUMP’S ECONOMY
The economy:

Well, it’s the economy they voted for…
Americans are fucking retarded, what does their opinion even matter at this point. (Am American lol)
Americans’ opinions are pretty stupid. The same people with a low opinion of the economy could also have a good chance at having a positive opinion of trump’s tariff wars, trump’s war in the Middle East, trump’s destruction of US foreign influence hobbling our ability to obtain favorable trade, trump’s tax cuts for the wealthy, and so much more that has a negative impact on our lives.
They are incredibly myopic and selfish.
Most Americans I run into don’t have a positive opinion of Trump’s war in Iran. Unless they personally know someone in the military or are a political freak, most of them just say, ‘what war?’
I’m not a Biden fan, but I’d like to point out:
- Inflation was lower when Biden left, than what he inherited from Mango Mussolini
- All three stock market indexes set records under Biden
- Violent crime, property crime, and the murder rate dropped under Biden
- Unemployment averaged 4.1%, below historical average
Now, you can nit pick these numbers, say how they aren’t representative of real people’s lives, or the median people’s lives and I’m not going to argue with you. Or you can point out the bad. But given these actual stats, Americans decided that nothing was better and trump would make things better. An insurrectionist, a liar, a sexual predator, a convicted felon, a racist, a narcissist, and on and on, was elected president. Again, after the train wreck of his first term.
tldr: American’s are stupid and their (our) opinions are trash. How many times will we see people bitching about trump, but then saying they’d vote for him again, or that there is no way they could vote for the other team?
I was visiting my American in-laws a few weeks ago and this type of thing infuriated me. They are basically hardcore Republicans who voted for Trump 3 times but don’t want to openly say it or, in the case of my mother and father in law, they keep acting like they don’t vote because “it doesn’t matter anyway”.
They then proceed to keep complaining about gas prices, grocery prices and general cost of living. My mother in law looked at the gas price and said “jeez, I wonder why gas is so expensive”. They are straight up the most ignorant people I’ve ever seen and they fit every single stereotype I have in my mind about rural voters.
And whenever I try to explain to them what the cause of all this is they just tell me that it has always been bad and that they won’t vote.
It’s one thing if you fuck yourself and your own country over (we have those voters here too in the Netherlands) but when you choose to elect someone (either by voting for them or not voting for the alternative) who has proven to be a disaster for both your country and the world as a whole it’s honestly on you and you deserve everything that comes your way, including the hate you get from people in other countries.
Edit: I forgot to add that they live in Michigan so they are even part of a crucial swing state, to make things more annoying. I tried talking to them about Abdul Al-Sayed and they didn’t even know who I was talking about.
If you look at effective voter manipulation strategies ie the cambridge analytica scandal, they object is not to rationally or irrationally persuade voters to change sides. The object is to sucessfully discourage the “other” side from voting. Making it seem pointless, “both sides are bad” and so on.
Your in-laws not voting is probably the best possible outcome. If they voted for Trump repeatedly they’re not going to magically develop respect for the life, liberty, and happiness of others.
That poster’s in-laws sound like they are just playing the usual games Republicans do when they don’t want to get blamed for their beliefs and their actions.
Someone did a great video a while back about the N number of things that Republicans say that are tells. I cannot find it right now, but it clicks in with this so very much.
ETA: found it. This guy did multiple parts to this, all so very fucking true:
How to spot a maga in the wild
Biden would be considered clearly right wing here (Denmark), but at least he was a “normal” person, and not a malignant narcissist.
As a rule of thumb, never vote for the psychopath no matter what he/she promises. The Psychopath doesn’t give a shit about people. And a psychopath simply can’t understand the social mechanisms that are necessary for a country to function well.Trump as a malignant narcissist is the worst kind of psychopath and sociopath there is.
The fact that Trump was ever elected is a symptom of something seriously wrong in American society.Yeah Biden is definitely more of a moderate right wing liberal according to most European countries standards.
I can somewhat imagine that people wanted change and decided to vote for Trump once, just to see what would happen. However, what I do not understand is the people who voted for him 2! times after that. How can you look at the endless list of shit he did in his first term and think “yeah I’ll have more of that please”.
what I do not understand is the people who voted for him 2! times after that.
This is also why allies don’t trust USA anymore. The problem isn’t just Trump, it’s the American voters.
people wanted change and decided to vote for Trump once
What I don’t understand is what that even would mean, substantively. As in actual policies, and not part of the culture war that conservatives are waging against America.
Change from…what? Things seemed to be getting back on track under Obama after the eight year debacle that was W.
I’ve heard the argument that people were bored with US politics and wanted to shake things up. Well, they sure managed to do that…
Yes. And these people are known as idiots. Also, a lot of them are misogynists that could not see themselves voting for a woman and probably gave excuses like “I just want to shake things up”.
I heard that again in 2025, by the way, about both donnie and Elon, when Elon was being brought in to destroy government agencies: “maybe they will just shake things up”.
The point of a representative democracy is that nobody needs to know every fine detail of politics. They pick a representative to do that for them.
Then nobody pays any attention, apart from an occasional headline.
They saw someone being an open piece of shit, and that was a change from the previously diplomatic suits. Change you can believe in!
Yeah, I guess that’s my point - the being an open piece of shit is part of the culture war. It’s not really about any policies, per se, other than those meant to hurt other people.
The economy is one of the only areas he did well
In 2014 I bought an R9 270x for slightly less than $250.
It ran every game from the time at high-ultra, 1080p 60fps. Except maybe crysis 3.
Don’t get me wrong, there’s bigger issues than not having a new card to render video games, but god damn do I miss that.
I keep eyeing certain computer components and thinking I should have bought last fall. Some drives are up more than 2x what they were, and memory is nearly 5x in some cases. I have a few low-end boxes that are going to have to try to “get by” until prices become reasonable again. I’m not buying at what is probably the height of this insanity…and that’s without even getting into GPUs. $7000 for a RTX 5090???
But rich people’s yacht money is doing so good!
One day I will have yacht… right guys… right?
Yarrr. There be ways
You wouldn’t download a yacht.
Too late.
Aw shit! It even comes as a pre-loaded object on orcaslicer! Right next to Cali Cat and the Stanford Bunny.
That’s crazy, the economy is waaaaay worse than 2014.
Get back to me when it’s lower than in 2008 or 2009
I wonder how many Republicans are completely delusional about 2008.
They may believe that everything turned awful the day he took office in 2009 and was absolutely terrible until the day donnie failed his way into office in 2017 and started to be a “golden age” at that point.
A recession is when your neighbor loses their job.
A depression is when you lose yours.
How the fuck did you get your text to be so far to the left? It’s further to the left than your timestamp shoved up against the edge of the page. Is this an incompatiblity issue between an app and the website? Like I’m using the website in browser on my phone but what would cause the elements to do that.
I can’t even see it.
Don’t worry I took a screenshot as proof.
