Donald Trump on Sunday called on Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to halt strikes on Russian diesel, saying the attacks are causing a fuel shortage.

Ukraine’s long-range strikes have been targeting Russia’s oil and gas industry for months, which Kyiv says both funds and directly fuels Moscow’s more than four-year-old invasion of its neighbor.

The Ukrainian drone campaign has caused fuel rationing across Russia, despite the country being a key oil and gas exporter. Other Ukrainian strikes targeted major Russian online retailers, bringing the war ever closer to the public.

The Orange Shitbag Russian asset can piss off. The Muscovites should leave Ukrainian territory, which includes the Crimea.

Oh ffs. Putin could retreat from Ukraine anytime.

Yeah, I know he can’t. He’d be done for politically and possibly also physically.

US should let Seal Team 6 handle this new oil crisis like they handled Bin Laden. Just send the them to Putin’s Datscha and boom, Russia would retreat from Ukraine, Ukraine would stop hitting Russia. Problem solved.

This is probably not correct, and seal team six would likely have much higher risk trying to go I to Russia, and neither AL queda nor venuxela have nukes.

I’m not convinced this ends with Putin though. Yes, there’s a chance the next guy in line will want to pull out, blame Putin for all the shortcomings, and act like this shit never happened. But that’s not the Russian way. The Russian way is fuck all the poor people, let’s start a war that is surely going to help us domestically. This could still mean pulling out of Ukraine, but then invading some other more defenceless country, just to show that Russia is still powerfull and manly.

So no, I’m not convinced cutting the head off the snake is really the solution.

Deisel is a resource used globally. The US doesn’t have to be purchasing Russian oil for Russian supplies to impact oil prices in the US.

It’s also why the whole argument about drilling in the US to make oil cheaper falls apart. Oil from Venezuala, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Texas, Trinidad, Abu Dhabi, or Alaska all end up in the same international commodity markets.

Like most presidents, Trump’s term will end with a helicopter ride.

Except it won’t be Marine One.

Trump will be evacuated from the White House by an FSB extraction helicopter.

Well, actually, the diesel thing started with the Ukraine war because Russia is a massive diesel producer and the sanctions drove diesel prices up starting 3 years ago.

To be fair, this graph doesn’t really counter the above comment… you’d need a graph from ~2020 (or before) to disprove their comment around prices rising 3 years ago.

Of course it doesn’t, because they’re being disengenuous; retail diesel was under $2 in 2021.

2021 was also just pulling out of the pandemic that sent oil prices negative for a while because demand destruction was so radical. I don’t think that’s a fair comparison.

Better look is here for complete data back to 1990… Diesel was pretty stable mostly through 2012 to 2020 at around $3/USD. It dropped during the pandemic, then spiked again after Russia’s invasion. It was slowly returning to an average baseline before Trump stuck his dick in it though.

While I don’t want to be a Negative Nancy, I also don’t want the remaining forces of the West to lose touch with reality, so I feel I should point out that there are still things Trump could do to put even more pressure on Ukraine, so we shouldn’t be flippant about the threat he still poses.

To be clear, I don’t disagree with the fact that Trump needs to take a long walk off a short pier. My point is that we can’t afford to convince ourselves that Trump has already done all the damage he’s going to do.

          Shouldn’t? 100%.

          Wouldn’t? 0%

I feel the fuck Trump mentality to my bones. And I get that talking shit in our little corner of the internet will accomplish fuck all either way, so have at it.

But in the big picture, Tango is right, Trump has the power to make things much worse for Ukraine, and the emotional maturity of a two year old. The means don’t justify the ends, especially when those ends are Trump switching from passive fucking with Ukraine, to active.
