Donald Trump on Sunday called on Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to halt strikes on Russian diesel, saying the attacks are causing a fuel shortage.

Ukraine’s long-range strikes have been targeting Russia’s oil and gas industry for months, which Kyiv says both funds and directly fuels Moscow’s more than four-year-old invasion of its neighbor.

The Ukrainian drone campaign has caused fuel rationing across Russia, despite the country being a key oil and gas exporter. Other Ukrainian strikes targeted major Russian online retailers, bringing the war ever closer to the public.

2021 was also just pulling out of the pandemic that sent oil prices negative for a while because demand destruction was so radical. I don’t think that’s a fair comparison.

Better look is here for complete data back to 1990… Diesel was pretty stable mostly through 2012 to 2020 at around $3/USD. It dropped during the pandemic, then spiked again after Russia’s invasion. It was slowly returning to an average baseline before Trump stuck his dick in it though.
