7·12 days agoI just imagine the dumbest thing someone can do in a situation and model for that.
Icy roads? Well, the logical thing to do is make sudden moves at the last possible second without leaving a buffer. Stand on the throttle at every intersection, and start braking when you normally would in the middle of summer, of course.
Honestly, you learn to predict unpredictability. Slight movements will tell you when someone is going to change lanes without a shoulder check or cross three lanes of traffic to make an exit that they could just have easily gone on to the next interchange without endangering themselves and others. Hell, I watch peoples eyes in their side mirrors look at me as they incorrectly judge how much space they have to insert themselves in front of me, when there’s a kilometer of space behind me they could use instead.

2·14 days agoI was. Livesuit wasn’t long. Maybe that should have just been an interstitial novella? I see it listed on the wikipedia page as a “novella” not a full-blown book.

442·17 days agoDon’t charge $100,000 for a regular fucking vehicle?
Seriously, all the useless expensive shit they add to vehicles to make them unmaintainable data miners is why they’re going to get slaughtered.
Give me an electric pickup with 4WD and crank up windows. Preferably no radio. I’d buy one of those Slates in a heartbeat if it were 4WD, as much as I hate Jeff Bezos.

You Should Know@lemmy.world•YSK: even modest increases in time spent outdoors significantly reduces a child's odds of developing short-sightednessEnglish
71·18 days agoIDK why it would say that, I’m a native speaker and the two terms have different meanings. Short-sightedness refers to not planning for long-term problems.
Edit: looking at what comes up in search, I see it showing up that way. I guess words change if we use them incorrectly for long enough. I’d be awfully confused if someone started talking about my short-sightedness as anything other than a flaw in my problem-solving abilities.
