Messages obtained by New York Magazine show the Democrat mocking free healthcare, dismissing the Epstein files as a “nothing burger,” and calling Democrats hypocritical for their outrage at the killing of nurse Alex Pretti in Minneapolis. Fetterman has been a thorn in his party’s side on a host of issues.

In January, according to the report, Fetterman sent staffers an article about how annual healthcare costs for a typical working American family are nearly $4,000.

“How should it cost? Free?” he wrote. “I don’t understand what affordability it is.”

Also in January, as the Trump administration was dragging its heels about releasing the Epstein files, Fetterman messaged a staffer: “Epstein was a nothing burger. Worst pics I’ve seen were from Clinton lol.”

Fetterman has been sounding more like a Republican, staffers say. Fetterman has been sounding more like a Republican, staffers say.

Then, after federal agents repeatedly shot Pretti in the back during anti-ICE protests, Fetterman complained that Democrats shouldn’t be taking his side because they had objected when Kyle Rittenhouse “brought a gun to a protest,” as Fetterman characterized it.

“Kyle Rittenhouse brought a gun to a protest,” Fetterman, 56, texted a staffer. “He was roundly condemned for that. Why are now democrats defending the nurse it was legal to carry. Both legal weapons. Square that.”

Unlike Pretti, though, Rittenhouse actually fired his gun. He shot three men—two fatally—during civil unrest in Kenosha, Wisconsin, in August 2020 after the shooting of Jacob Blake by a police officer. Rittenhouse was charged with two counts of homicide and one count of attempted homicide, among other charges. He was found not guilty.

Pretti’s killing, the Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office determined, was a homicide.

Fetterman’s office did not immediately respond to a request for comment from the Daily Beast.

I pay more than that as a single adult. And to make matters worse, my plan fucking sucks and covers barely anything with a $9,000 deductible. It’s the cheapest plan in my area…

Meanwhile Festerman gets free fucking healthcare on my tax dollars. Fuck that.

$715/mo. here (single, white, cis, male), tho I might qualify for subsidies I’m not (yet?) taking. My income for the year has been near zero, as I am unemployed since last April.

I probably do, but … I don’t feel like I should take it. The U.S. healthcare system sucks for everyone; in many, many ways I’m quite privileged. If the AI bubble ever bursts, I’ll probably be able to rejoin my interrupted career in software development quickly – right now the market is really tough.

Take it. You deserve it. People who are in your position are exactly who it’s for.

Source: I am in a very similar situation.

If you qualify but feel too guilty, take it and just don’t use it. That way, in an emergency you have it, but you’re not taking anything “away from anybody.”

But also, take it and use it! This country should be providing health care to everyone. Private insurance is a freakin scam

your states ACA system might have more info, they usually have ACA experts a call away in your states during business hours.

I got this plan through the ACA system, I just opted to skip the process of checking for subsidies.

medi-caid you have to have very low income, depending on the state. and even in cali its have to be no more than 1800+/month, red states are much lower, go even 1$ over you might have to report it. you basically have to be almost not working, usually elderly/disable who cant work at all, or very poor student. generally you dont have to report it until your income is reaching over the max(per year) for a certain state. its only a problem if after taxs they find out you have earned way more than the max income limit for medicaid they may come after you(assume you used the healthcare system earning after you passed the income limit)

you should check your states/counties version of aca, im on a plan that has subsidies, but it wont cover much for things like ER visits still in the hundreds but not insane like thousands, and any specialty drugs they also barely cover too.(if you need biologics, you can get a “coupon” card from the manufacter themselves.

My plan is okay. It covers most things (including ER visits) partially, and the out of pocket maximum isn’t insane, but there’s constant co-pays. But, honestly that’s why I carry it; to limit the financial damage a single event can cause in a single year.
