Technology@lemmy.world•Here’s what ads on your $2,000 Samsung smart fridge will look like
9·17 hours agoThe only time I’ve ever lost anything from a fridge was when an apartment complex preemptively cleared out the last of our belongings before we finished moving out.
And that was 30 years ago.

There are a handful of places still growing Gros Michel on a very small scale, hence the “very probably” modifier.

The Cavendish banana is a monoculture that your grandkids will never know, the same way that you’ve (very probably) never had a Gros Michel.
Later model VCRs had a thing where they kept a list of shortcuts for time/channel/length. The eight (ten?) digit code, you’d just plug that into the VCR and you didn’t have to program all the details.
It was a standard system for setting up a VCR to record your selected program, because every VCR was different. I believe you connected the VCR to a phone line and it would dial out to get new codes? It was sort of like DNS (really like a distributed HOSTS file), but for media recording instead of websites.
Doesn’t everything ultimately become heat?
TiVo was the “VCR code in the TV Guide” for the early digital age.

901·7 days agoAnd this is just the first fallout. We’re going to end up with a dearth of advanced skills for possibly decades if there aren’t places for people starting off to gain experience. We won’t get the level of creative innovation we should expect, but at least we won’t be able to fix things that break, either.

Are you an unlawful user of, or addicted to, marijuana or any depressant, stimulant, narcotic drug, or any other controlled substance? [my bold]
Are you. Right at the moment you are checking the box, are you an unlawful user …?
Caffeine and nicotine are stimulants.
Are you … addicted to … any … stimulant … ?

Doesn’t this mean that plaintiffs will need to demonstrate that there actually is such a risk?
Defense: Correlation is not causation.
