Central or western NY would be closest to CT if you want proper lake effect snow. You need to be near a Great Lake. There’s only a few areas in the country that get snow like this.
Tug Hill and surrounding areas (it’s a pretty big area on a map) get massive snowfalls usually. I remember driving around north of Syracuse (Fulton, Volney, Oswego county area) and seeing road signs on top of other road signs because the snow gets so deep. Balconies on the third floor of a building because the snow gets deep enough to drive your snowmobile right up to the deck when the snow piles up. Blew my mind and i live less than 2 hours away.
I live in Connecticut. So we get a few inches usually at most. Once we got about 18 and it was a blast. So a few hours away from the good snow.
