I’m incredibly distanced from the rest of my extended family. No one reaches out to me because they can’t, and I don’t reach out because they’re all fascists and I’m queer. This is how it should be. They don’t know my address or my contact info, and I wait patiently for their lives to end.
Sad, but completely justified
I’m estranged from my mom’s family, but I found out my cousin’s kid is queer and now we email back and forth. Kid is in high school and I think it does him good to know he’s not the only queer person in the family. His mom’s decent, we just didn’t have much of a relationship because my cousin’s mom sucks so much.
Edit: and his mom knows we correspond, she’s cool with it.
I have an aunt who cut off the rest of the family and is living her own best life, and as revenge for that, when my grandfather died, the rest of her siblings gathered together and forged her signature on the inheritance documents, and screwed her out of her cut of 1.25 million dollars. (split 5 ways with two of the ways going to my mentally disabled uncle, instead of 6 ways the way it should have been)
I was relatively young and didn’t realize how fucked that was until it was past the statute of limitations and nobody could do anything about it, but I will gladly report that every single one of my aunts and uncles wasted their money and had nothing to show for it within three years.
However, I am sad to report that my evil grandmother, who was divorced from my grandfather, became the steward of the half million dollars that my mentally disabled uncle got, and it was all gone before she passed away.
The statue of limitations usually starts from the time the event was discovered not necessarily from when it occurred. So if they hid it for years and discovered it down the road, action might be still available.
Even if that were the case, like, the best she could do would be pressing criminal charges because none of them have any money now to pay her back the difference.

Plus side of having LGBT parents is sometimes family gatherings at their place is just the queer family members, some of which don’t show up to the larger family gatherings. Its not always the case though and my parents are MAGA lesbians, but most of the rest of the family are further right than my parents and them hosting keeps away the worst of the worst.
Yeah I’m reeling at the phrase ‘MAGA lesbians’. Just a wild concept that, unfortunately, doesn’t surprise me like it used to. My dad went from a pro-union man who moved out of West Virginia and despised the coal mines and their benefactors to sucking MAGA hose water by the gallon. Used to roll his eyes at trickle down economics and called my mother a moron for voting for Bush.
I wish you the best and hope the cult ends with a peaceful and disappointing fizzle (and anyone in charge/positions of power or authority gets the old testament treatment they’ve been begging for others) and that everyone gets their loved ones back that want them back
My mom has gotten worse over the years, especially since retiring. She used to refuse to support republicans solely because of LGBT+ issues despite otherwise mostly agreeing with them, but I think she may have voted for trump in the most recent election. She mostly buys into the “republicans = good for stock market” and “democrats = steal all your money” meme rather than being a true believer at least. She’ll also repeat like obviously dog-whistle-laden talking points, but I don’t think she really realized how racist they are and how they don’t actually fit into her broader beliefs.
Also, she may struggle a lot with internalized transphobia, so honestly I feel far worse for her than I do for myself. Most of the time she tries to be transphobic to me (which she doesn’t do often), she ends up being really affirming on accident and then says she’d like to transition the other way.
My other mom is more of the traditional MAGA type. Overtly racist (but doesn’t say the n-word, so she doesn’t think she’s racist). OTOH, I don’t think I’ve ever heard her be transphobic and she’s one of the first people to ask me if I considered myself trans.
My thought to reconcile it was all the counter culture.

I’m definitely ostracized from factions of my family. I have no clue why it became so extreme.
Funny thing is… My sister, 5 years older, is like a “bestie” to many of my nieces. Despite the fact that she sexually abused me when I was about 10-12 years old.
I bet if they knew and believed me… Shit might flip faster than those stupid bottle flip TikTok insanity.
I’m that uncle. My uncle went far right and started corrupting the rest of the family. People I respected started talking about how we needed Trumps wall (from his first run), talking about those e-mail servers, talking about those “libtards”, everything. Oh, and the absolute worst would be universal healthcare!!! My mom once joked, during COVID, about how she should drive up to the protestors during the George Floyd event… and how she should just cough on them (she wasn’t sick… she just thought it be funny). She proudly told me that, meanwhile I had a friend reach out asking me NOT to go to the protests because she worried about me. One of them knew me way better and spoiler it wasn’t my mom.
I lost so much respect for so many parts of my family. These were people who raised me to to not believe everything you read or see on TV, to pursue education, etc. All of a sudden believed anything that was on Facebook.
