Democrats have won the Senate majority, a feat that seemed unreachable last year but that came to fruition with Republican candidates failing in states won just two years ago by President Trump, whose failing approval ratings was a huge drag on the GOP.
Victory in the Senate will deliver additional oversight powers to Democrats, who will now have a much bigger say on administration and judicial nominations.
They will also set the schedule for the Senate and have new powers to call in administration officials for hearings.
The string of Democratic victories sets the stage for Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) to return as majority leader in 2027 and for hardball negotiations with Trump on an array of issues, including on federal spending levels.
Fuck Schumer. New Dem leadership now.
hakeem, cory booker, fetterman, slotkin,etc.
What is Schumer’s job again?
he said “continue support the “lefts” support of israel, no exceptions”
In his own words it is to work for Israel. Traitor must be tried
To send strongly worded letters to the White House
But first, sending a polite note and 4 trillion dollars to israel
hakeem too.
The string of Democratic victories sets the stage for Sen. Chuck Schumer
We want new leadership too. I thought he was retiring?
No, but he’s up for re-election in 2028. I do think a primary of him has a real chance given even many house dems are quite pissed at him
Well there’s gonna be a lot of new faces, so fingers crossed 🙃
Right now, the Democrats are leading for the Senate seat in Mississippi. Admittedly, it’s incredibly tight, but simply the fact that they’re competitive in Mississippi is absolutely mind-boggling.
What about places like alabama and florida?
Non american here, sitting with popcorn.
Florida stayed quite red, the only good news was the the Republican off-year gerrymander of their district map did not win them any seats. The margins were tight but it was the only state the GOP really performed well in. Alabama nothing really changed, the red seats stayed red and the few blue seats stayed blue.
There were some really surprising results in other states though. Texas went from all Republican-held state legislature, governor, Lt. governor and supreme court to Democrats winning or claiming majorities in all those positions. It’s hard to describe how massive this is, because the Republicans have been suppressing metropolitan voters in that state for 30 years, which means that Texas might be a swing state in 2028.
Another one-off result is in Tennessee, which mostly went well for Republicans, but House District 04 in that state is currently too close to call with the Democratic candidate ahead by (currently) 280 votes. Trump won this district two years ago with +24%.
It’s hard to describe how much an an historic wave tonight has been. I’ve not seen a midterm this one-sided since '94, when the GOP flipped 54 seats during Clinton’s administration.
Alabama, Florida, and Arkansas have been called for the Republicans. sucks that Nixon lost in Florida, bit it was pie in the sky. I am astonished that we got south Carolina and Kansas.
Mississippi is so close it could easily be ratfucked by a judge tossing out 100 ballots. But the fact that the dem is leading there feels like a fever dream.
Alabama was a comfortable +9.4% for republicans, Florida was much more competitive at +2.9% for the republican incumbent. Both of these are for the Senate seats, gubernatorial races were closer in both states. Mind you these are still firm republican wins on their face, but in the context of voting habits for previous elections this is a massive shift away from the republican party.
Holy heck the dem is 29 votes up right now, that race is close
Yeah I did a double take on that. It wasn’t even registering in my mind as viable so reality shook a little seeing that
No thanks to Schumer.
In spite of him, really.
Truly. Did any Schumer backed (in the primary) candidates win?
Or at least, what’s Schumers over under versus Hasans?
Hasan came out tonight as kingmaker.
if only you can get rid of the Aipac funded Dinos, like schumer, hakeem, cory, slotkin, etc they are using this win to shield thier own failures and cupabilities of trump.
What an absolute skull fucking tonight. Chuck needs to fuck off though.
I hope the new blood light a fire under Schumer’s ass before they are absorbed by moneyed interests. This was some of the most rancid levels of xenophobic, Islamophobic, antisemitic, anti-queer and anti-Black rhetoric I have ever seen during an election cycle in my (admittedly very short) life, it’s insane how the right AND the center-right just attacked through every hateful vector available. Americans were not having it, and the Dems need to acknowledge which way the wind is blowing.
Exit polls show that 50% of all voters think that the US provides too much support to Israel. Schumer is for sure doing that Principal Skinner meme right now.
schumers is full zionist, so is hakeem, and they are shiedling at least dozen+ congresspeople whoa re also funded by aipac.
A dozen of 255 seats is still a minority in the house. Schumer also used his own Superpac to donate $30mil to El-Sayed’s campaign, so he’s not fully against anti-Israel candidates or understands controlling swing states for the 2028 elections.
Either way, it’s obvious AIPAC lost bigtime this midterm and it’s up to the Dems to recognize that. They have a real chance at a supermajority for 2028, and Schumer may have less of a backbone than an eel, but he’s not 100% stupid at the game considering the tight races in Mississippi and Louisiana are his handpicked candidates.
What do you mean “a dozen”? AIPAC funds majority Dems
“As of November 2026, 247 of 262 Democratic members of Congress have received money from AIPAC and pro-Israel PACs, totaling $135.6 million according to FEC filings. This includes 45 Senators and 202 House Representatives”
They also sit on ALL of the committees. I don’t think they are going to hold anyone associated with their mossad blackmail op reaponsible
It’s also not just winning the majority, but (likely, not all fully-counted yet) winning the majority by a pretty substantial margin.
It’s a Fetterman-proof margin already which is all I give a shit about.
As my wife and I were watching the number of dem Senate seats get close to 50 she said “We just need to get to 51, right?” I had to remind her we actually needed 52 to overcome Fetterman. Thank Zeus we are well past that.
AP has it at 53 to 41, with the remaining 6 split evenly. Even if all 6 went Democratic there not enough to beat the filibuster.
Every vote matters in the senate. These seats are there for 6 years. That give dems a buffer in the future.
True, but we will see how many Republican senators are willing to break with a significantly weakened Trump.
Especially now that they’ve just seen what being associated with Trump gets them.
This is the part that needs to happen, unless they want shit to fall apart completely, of course.
Still, it’s going to fall pretty far short of supermajority in either House or Senate, which means any chance of impeachment and conviction is off the table. Getting 10 R senators willing to vote to convict, regardless of the evidence, is going to be difficult to the point of near impossibility. Even after seeing more than a few R senators get their comeuppance right now and expecting to be on the ballot in 2028 with Vance or Rubio as the candidate, they’ll still stand for the loyalty test to try and latch on to the money teat.
They can at least put the brakes on all this Republican bullshit.
And they’ll have the power to almost unilaterally dictate the budget, which will be a big deal if they have the balls to really use that leverage.
They have the house now too
holy fuck
Interesting if that will change anything regarding foreign politics.
