Fedora has become the best “just works” distro for everyday users, imo. Especially in the immutable varieties.
They’re releasing vinyl records now?
(Yes, I’m that old.)
Pardon my ignorance here, does this eventually extend to Silverblue and thereby Bazzite? Or are those further removed?
Aaand it’s here.
After a

sudo ostree admin pin 1before rebooting. It’s not that I distrust Bazzite or Fedora before them, it’s that they really can’t test against all the weird and wonderful hardware out there, and you might only pick up a subtle flaw a week or two in. A couple of weeks from now I’ll do asudo ostree admin pin -u 2to remove it (there’ll be 3 deployments until then)Wow, that’s fast. Crazy. And on the stable branch, no less.
This is the new stable base of Fedora. The distros you mentioned are forks of Fedora.
In a practical sense, this means most of the big changes will eventually make their way to the forks, though when and how these changes are incorporated depends on several things, including but certainly not limited to who is on what development teams, what these changes actually entail and if they are still in alignment with the specific downstream distro’s aims, and many other things I am too ignorant to know of myself.
The beauty of Linux is that you can check it out for yourself with minimal fuss if you’re so inclined. Live USB booting is a pretty slick way to experience an OS without committing to it entirely, and I can’t name a distro that is going to give you a hard time with any sort of dual boot.
replied to the wrong person, sorry.
FYI, Fedora Silverblue is a Fedora atomic spin, and it’s available now.
Fedora Silverblue 45 is already available
