At this point striving to be a billionaire needs to be added in the DSM as a mental disorder.

This is their slush fund. You know. For buying Coke and underaged prostitutes.

Start framing it that way. Anyone with extreme wealth must be using it for drugs and debauchery and make them all look like the vampires they are.

Fun fact: even these guys have such a tiny amount of money compared to Musky and friends that it wouldn’t be unreasonable to exempt them from a wealth tax. $500m is 0.05% of $1T.

$500m is still an absolutely absurd amount of money compared to the average person, but geometrically speaking Musky is to these guys’ summed bonus pool as these guys’ summed bonus pool is to $250,000. Not to say that we couldn’t/shouldn’t also tax the shit out of $500m, but I feel like people often get lost in weird debates when discussing wealth taxes conceptually. You could put the cutoff far above every single Goldman Sachs exec from a wealth tax and it would still be an insanely valuable revenue source for the public. The doctor making $1m/year isn’t your enemy, the business owner making $5m/year isn’t even close, even the Sachs executives are barely a drop in the bucket of wealth inequality. Musk, Bezos, Zuck… their wealth is truly incomprehensible and inexcusable.

Point taken, but the doctor making $1m/yr and the business owner making $5m/yr seem to think they’re in the same club as the billionaires and vote accordingly (going by yard signs and bumper stickers seen in their neighborhoods).

If not enemy, then why enemy shaped?

They might vote against our (and their) best interests but it’s important to note that if we want to get them on board, we can’t make them feel like victims or others. Ultimately politics isn’t about being more right its about convincing more people you’re right, and part of selling a wealth tax is getting the upper-middle class to realize that “socialists” don’t give a fuck about some guy making $1m/yr, and that “they’re coming for your money” is a lie for everyone except like 500 people total.

Shouldn’t that go to the people whose money they manage? Or the employees? I mean why would you put your money there knowing how much will go to the few at the top?

The same reason we buy prescription drugs from companies with enough excess revenue to advertise their medicine - we’re American, wtf else are we gonna do?
