As the United States renews its diplomatic push to end Russia’s war against Ukraine, Moscow is making something clear: its position has not changed.
While U.S., Ukrainian, and Russian officials met for trilateral talks in January and again in early February — with another round expected next week — the Kremlin has used the same period to restate its position.
As Washington speaks of momentum and narrowing gaps, Russia’s most senior officials have publicly dismissed key elements of the proposed framework.
For three consecutive days, from Feb. 9 to Feb. 11, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov publicly undercut suggestions that negotiations were advancing.
His message was consistent and direct: Russia’s territorial and political demands remain intact, and any serious discussion must revolve around Ukraine accepting them.
Here’s the Deal …Putin can go F himself. Take it or leave it
I hope the russian federation dissolves in the next decade. The world will be a better place without them, when moscow is just a small pariah state.
So back in 1994 my neighbours and I agreed that I’d give them my anti-theft fog cannons, as long as they promise not to steal my stuff.
Then in 2014 they sent some buddies in to burgle my place, and got away with a chunk of my stuff - and I know it was said neighbour behind it, because they now openly claim what was taken is theirs (of course, I never agreed with them on that).
Then since February 2022 they’ve started regularly burgling my place - in the first few weeks, they tried to take literally everything, but fortunately I hired good security guards and they only got away with about 20% of my stuff (including what they stole in 2014).
I’ve been trying to make arrangements for a monitored alarm system that will bring in a large external response if more burglaries happen, but the security company doesn’t want to take it on the contract while a burglary is in progress - but they did sell me some gear. I’m still working on getting the contract.
They say they’ll stop trying to burgle my place as long as I promise not to ever get a monitored burglar alarm, to officially sign over the property they’ve already stolen and to stop trying to get it back, stop buying stuff to protect my property from the monitored security company, and that I fire most of my security guards.
Do you think this is really their end game, or if I agree, do you think they’ll just be back burgling more as soon as I make those promises, with fewer security guards and stuff to protect my house? After all, I did have an agreement with them back in 1994 and they didn’t follow that.
They’ve also got one of your kids.
Come on, they want a genocide of the ukranian people and to annex the territory.
That’s all this has ever been about. Money. Land and resources.
Also power.
Ukraine just before the invasion of Crimea had just discovered that the Donbas region had a massive untapped natural gas/methane deposit. It would have ended Russian control of EU methane. Its suspected that is why Putin has been pushing for all of Donbas.
Its also about trying to make all of the soviet bloc countries stay tied to Russia.
He’s a history buff. He idolizes Peter the Great and I think a lot of this insanely expensive push is because he desires to leave a similar legacy.
Russia would love nothing more than to treat Ukraine exactly the way Israel treats Gaza.
Too bad there is only one chosen people who can genocide with divine merit /s
You have to read past the propaganda and evaluate Russian motives based on their actions, not their rhetoric.
Based on Russian actions and events, one can easily surmise they want to genocide themselves, and sabotage their country so badly that it will go from a 3rd rate to a 4th rate shithole.
They want China to annex the eastern portions and Europe to annex to the Urals because they hate themselves more than anything. As good a job as Ukrainians are doing, no one kills more Russians than Russians.

I really wish this war could be over so Zelinsky can get back to making hilarious sitcoms for Netflix
What fucking idiots. I feel bad for the (good) people there, but after all the pain and destruction Russia has caused, I hope at the end of this they end up a broken, destitute, isolated nation too weak to ever be a threat to anyone else ever again…
The USA has no leverage left to put on Russia, trump is too weak and won’t go after Putin.
The only thing that would change the status quo at the negotiating table is external influence on the battle field by a western power. Something no one wants to commit to in fear of escalation.
Meanwhile Ukraine will get a raw deal losing a third of its territory with the very real prospect of Russia walking in and taking the rest in a few years time.
Anchorage agreement is the the new Ribentropp-Molotov pact I guess
No, Russia “wants” an end to the Empire proxy war and the legit Ukraine government that the Ukrainian people wanted to be restored. Not the current Nazi empire puppet put in place by the empire in 2014. Of course I wouldn’t expect anything less from an empire propaganda outlet
@lemmy.ml and already tagged as a tankie.
Damn, color me surprised!
I thought, at first, that this was particularly retarded satire, but…
No, just .ml things
🚨🚨TANKIE ALERT🚨🚨
Indeed, Putin is quite selflessly thinking of the Ukrainian people. That’s why he keeps killing them and destroying their heat and energy infrastructure in winter.
Plus all those children they abducted were going to grow up to be Nazis.

Oh look, a user from the extreme Zionist instance, how quaint
Don’t be ridiculous, the US wants nothing to do with Ukraine https://www.theguardian.com/world/2004/nov/26/ukraine.usa
I had to look up what the “empire” is because I’m not familiar with Russian propaganda. It’s NATO and Western allies, and apparently they’re better at manipulating Ukrainian foreign policy than Russia is, so Russia’s only option is to go to war.
The denazification narrative always forgets Russia’s fascism
Ok buddy
Isn’t it as simple as Putin wanting the USSR to be restored?
No. The USSR wasn’t just a federation. It was a entirely different economic model and mode of production. Putin has no interest in getting rid of capitalism. I’m not arguing that the USSR was a workers paradise. But it was something novel that did not exist anywhere else and cannot simply be restored by taking the territory of neighbouring states and subjugating their people.
It’s more nuanced that that - he definitely doesn’t want USSR back in terms of economical or political system as is, but he does want to bring back USSR in the name (to get legacy and accomplishments association) and get the same consolidated power to build the totalitarian oligarchy somewhat similar to USSR, but without some checks and balances that were still present even in USSR
