  • I think I have to tell my favorite bird story.

I used to have a glorious organic garden, and I would work in it almost every day. One day, as I was turning a bed for the next crop, a Robin sat on the edge of another bed watching me. When I stepped back to take a break, he hopped over to where I’d been working, and pulled up a big worm.

I went back to work, and he continued to watch me. Occasionally I’d toss him a worm. After that, he’d show up whenever I’d work, for a free meal.

One day, I got started, and my buddy showed up. He called quietly, in that little warbling chortle that they do, and a female robin hopped out from behind the neighbor’s fence. She spotted me, and became immediately agitated, but he chortled lightly, and she settled down, eyeing me warily.

I got to work, and tossed him a worm, which startled her. He gulped it down as she watched. Then I tossed a worm to her, startling her again, but less. She carefully approached the worm and ate. After that she settled down, and enjoyed her dinner

My Robin friend had gone out and got himself a date, and brought her to his favorite restaurant, where he’s friends with the head chef. What a BALLER move!

  • I can’t speak to what the rest of the world might do. Some countries may choose to prohibit fully automated operations.

I just know that in America, any chance to mitigate the damage caused by widespread adoption of automation like fast food operations, will be completely dismissed under a MAGA administration.

Dems should introduce a “Robot Tax” which at least makes up for the lost tax that the now unemployed employee would have been paying. Otherwise we have unemployment rise sharply, as tax collections shrink sharply.

I was just speaking to a MAGA business acquaintance, and HE brought up the idea of the Robot Tax, calling it stupid. When I pointed out the tax situation, he just said “Taxes should be illegal, they’re immoral.” As if MAGA hadn’t given up on morals long ago. He doesn’t have a problem with the morality of completely ending an entire industry’s employment base, just to increase profits for a billion dollar company.

  • I’m eating out a lot less, these days. I used to head out for the day with the idea of grabbing lunch first, but now I usually eat lunch at home first. At the price of eating out, with the quality of fast food slipping so badly at the same time, it’s cheaper and far more satisfying to eat at home anyway. I found myself eating some poor approximation of food, and wishing I had just made a sandwich at home, so that’s what I started doing.

Wendy’s has always my favorite burger joint, after Culver’s, so my change in eating habits is directly contributing to their downfall.

The other lesson here is that if Wendy’s is slipping this badly, so are all the others.

AND finally, this: If they are slipping so badly, and much of it due to rising labor costs, this will motivate them to start automating their fast food operations. Every fast food company has been researching robotic preparation, and they could easily implement it tomorrow. The only reason they haven’t is because there will be a huge outcry when the first one does it. After that, they fall like dominos, and with a few years after the first one, ALL fast food restaurants will be mostly automated, and MILLIONS of fast food workers will lose their jobs. It is inevitable.
