Iraq II - Shock and Awe was definitely a huge part of my political awakening. I’m still saddened (but no longer amazed) that more people didn’t figure it out at the time, and that so many still haven’t figured it out.

NYT also sat on the story about NSA wiretapping US citizens for over a year at the behest of the Bush admin. Later, DNI Clapper would deny that spying on Americans happened “wittingly,” a denial which would push Edward Snowden to leak information thst proved otherwise.
Absolutely, but I think right now it’s important to be able to show that this behavior goes back decades and isn’t some new phenomenon that so many people act as though it is.
The NSA story they sat on was in 2007 when they published it, so literally has been 20 years this year.
It goes back way before that too. During WWII they were firmly against the US entering the war and also against allowing Jewish refugees into the country.
NYT also faked a story about Hamas raping people on october 7 by hiring an Israeli videographer with no journalistic experience by writing down faked uncorroborated testimonies without evidence to create support for the genocide.
I don’t recall the media covering the fake electors of the Jan 6 coup hardly at all. The media loved to cover the big violent crowd becaus it was flashy. However, the fake elector scheme was the more significant crisis in my mind. That showed a planned and coordinated effort by people in power to subvert democracy.
I think this is getting to the core of how Trump has been so successful. Every important story is drowned out by an endless flood of shit. Good journalism still exists, but it has gotten almost impossible to find as news channels rush to cover the latest distraction Trump is up to. The real stories drown in the bullshit.
Long story short I think it’s possible to pay attention and nevertheless miss out on important stories, due to the fundamental flaws of the information ecosystem. It’s really only necessary to write one story about something like this, but whatever Trump is up to gets a new story every hour.
