Yoko Tawada’s next novel centers around a Japanese near future where all that is left of their civilization is a few thousand elderly Japanese and millions of robots that provide all the health care, farming, etc. that their society requires, but can no longer provide for themselves. The novel starts of with a prologue that begins just after that event which triggered Japan’s eventual descent into oblivion, February 8, 2026.

I guess I thought it would be longer before I saw openly vapid, grifitng, right-wing, cult of personality in the office of prime minister of Japan. SMH. I give it less than two years before reasonable Japanese wish their government hadn’t installed this clown as prime minister.

If Russia actually had the manpower and hardware to overwhelm Ukraine and achieve their objectives, they would ahave done so years before now. They are stalling. The west could end this whole conflict relatively quickly if they wanted to. Simply sever all diplomatic AND economic ties with Russia and with any country that doesn’t do exactly the same. China and India would fall in line almost instantly and Putin’s efforts would collapse like a house of cards.

So, about 5% of the number of Russian conscript casualties?

Agreed. The instant pivot to “both-sides-ism” by so many people is a big part of the reason we are where we are today. Always mentioning D politicians in the same breath whenever the R politicians corruption or crime is discussed (when said Rs are many orders of magnitude worse) is the textbook definition.

Michelle Obama’s idea of “when they go low, we go high” only works if your opponent hasvoters have a miniscule amount of morals or shame.

It’s both actually. The justices beholden to Trumpanzee were informed that the election will be stolen anyway and so the fallout from them “looking even more like clowns” wasn’t necessary.

Oh, they most certainly wouldn’t be…I guess I mean that they will say they are behaving themselves and a complicit media will repeat this as if it were the truth. 9 months of that and the same kind of shite who voted GOP will cheerfully do so again. It’s almost like they will be begging for permission to double down even further denying the reality around them.

Is this really necessary? I hate the governments of several countries (my own most of all). I would never call an entire country violent and rotten because of it.

I am honestly afraid the Repubs will start behaving themselves until after Nov…maybe even be able to somewhat reign in their Orange monkey-god and then wait to begin again with the fascism with even more vigor after the midterms. I live in a purple state with a Democratic governor with an election this year. I am terrified that my state is going to elect a Trump lickspittle this Nov.
