Technology@lemmy.world•How ordinary failure could have a seismic effect on an industrial giantEnglish
0·2 years agoIf you read the article it explains why the fact that it is an ordinary failure is a bad thing. Ordinary failures (like some one not installing some bolts) are not supposed to happen in high reliability systems like passenger aircraft. Failures tend to come through “extraordinary” failures where multiple factors line up in an over looked way in order to create an unexpected failure mode.
A 10 year old could tell you not installing safety bolts where they are supposed to be would make things dangerous. The fact that that is how a potentially lethal failure happened is damming.

0·2 years agoIt takes only an incredibly basic knowledge of computers and brains to know that we cannot make an actual intelligent program using the Von Neumann style of computer.
Nice to hear that it only takes a very basic knowledge of computers to settle one of the most hotly disputed issues in philosophy and computing. You should let them know you’ve decided it.

Thats was a. From years before proton, b. from a dev renowned for being linux hostile, c. ignores the fact that linux users are far more likely to be technical and likely to submit a proper bug report rather than shrugging and moving on.
