  • Instead of people buying a house because they need a home, they are purchasing the house as a way to make more money. Instead of living in the house, they rent it out, and the renters just end up paying the mortgage. The owner holds the property for a certain amount of time, then sells the house after it appreciates and makes a profit. Houses that they already own can be used to leverage for more loans to purchase even more. Houses are no longer seen as a place to live, or a home, they are now seen as a way to generate income. If people that have money keep buying more and more houses without living in them, they end up creating scarcity, which drives up prices. Commodification is the process of turning something, such as a good, service, idea, or cultural artifact, into a commodity that can be bought and sold in a market. This often changes the item’s original meaning or significance by transforming its social or cultural value into an economic one based on supply, demand, and price. Now, the very things we need just to survive, food, shelter, water, and medical care are being comodified to pump as much profit from it as possible. Juxtapose this with wage stagnation despite increased productivity in the past century and inflation, it’s pretty clear that corporate entities would rather see us dead for short term profits than keep us as customers.

  • The flag was found inside Taylor’s office in the Cannon Building in Washington, D.C., Tuesday afternoon, according to an office spokesperson. Taylor believes it is the result of “foul play or vandalism,” the spokesperson said.

So someone broke into this guys office/cubicle to alter the flag to “vandalize” the office? But they didn’t vandalize anything else? I find that very hard to believe.

If you zoom in on the image in the politico article, you can see that the flag was altered. It appears that there are white tabs/pieces of paper placed over the parts of the red stripes, and the added red stripes look like they were done with pen/marker.

It’s more likely that someone with access to the office, or that worked in the office altered the flag. People do prank their coworkers, if so, this is a really shitty prank. The other likely scenario is that the aide altered the flag himself, and forgot it was hanging there when he had his zoom meeting. The other possible, and least likely scenario is the person that provided the image to politico altered the image themselves via photoshop/GIMP/paint.

If the aide hung this in his cubicle himself, he should be fired. If someone with access to the office hung it there to prank the aide, they should be fired. If the image was altered by the person that took the screenshot, they should be fired.

  • I operate on a beans and rice budget; shit like an 6 ounce can of tomato past went from $0.60 to $1.00. Same sorts of price increases go for rice, beans, garbonzos and other canned/dry non perishables. Flour has gone up. Sugar has gone up. Don’t even get me started on the price of meat. Produce has gone up, A bulb of garlic cost $1.00 now, and where it used to be 30-50 cents. Green onions $1.50 when they used to be $1.00. Seeing similar price rises in cilantro, fresh corn, cucumbers, potatos, onions. I started making stuff from scratch to save money . . . aaaannnnd it’s gone.

  • I’m sorry, but where in the article does it mention that the alleged killer did this because religion, and where in the article does it mention he had affiliation with Charlie Kirk?

    All we have is this:

In the YouTube livestream, Battiloro said he’s been bullied and ridiculed over false allegations and called for more to done to address mental health in New Jersey, including requesting that the state’s Republican gubernatorial candidate, Jack Ciattarelli, focus on that issue.

That one sentence points to him possibly supporting republicans, it says nothing about religion. Fuck Charlie Kirk and fuck the current republican administration, but that one sentence does not a terrorist make. It’s more likely that this kid was but hurt because these girls did not want to be associated with him, colloquially or romantically.
