BIOS offers only UEFI and secure boot disabled
using mint to make usb drive with mx linux

getting new error “EFI variables cannot be set on this system.” error cannot find grub drive for /dev/sda1



update on fight with laptop
tried install grub but my install is a bit different then guides i can find.

sorry i did tire to update the BIOS but need windows to do it and freedos does not work with UEFI.


lubuntu and ubuntu will not boot freezes after selecting try ubuntu option. debin frezzes near end of installing something to do with Secure Boot file thing and Secure Boot disabled. debin live works but same error installing.


I tired installing and disabled Secure Boot but the install stops and can’t find Secure Boot file thing. It is like Secure Boot is still enabled. Hope I making sense.


Linux is amazing using it for one year now. File explorer tabs is the best thing. Steam proton games works great. Updating software is no longer a nightmare. Big thanks to the Linux community. :)

should it look like this export PATH=$PATH:/usr/sbin/grub-install
and should i edit the ~/.bashrc
was able to remove the edit i made and commands are work

sorry forgot i edited the .bashrc file with
export PATH=/usr/sbin/grub-install/grub-install :/usr/local/sbin
then ran
source ~/.bashrc
