  • I would have suicidal thought if I had to chat with Chatgpt

I’ve been using it a tonne lately, and I find that it’s in fact quite polite, friendly and helpful. Yes-- for sure it has its issues, which are important to understand ahead of time. That said, I don’t really use it to “chat,” but more as a research gofer, so YMMV. Compare that to the often useless and delusional Copilot Gemini, for example.

not from an illusionary intelligence bot.

I get your sentiment there, but TBC, that’s not what it is nor what it claims to be. You seem to have gotten yourself in to some boogeyman thinking upon that, and ultimately I don’t think that’s going to help you understand things or make educated decisions.

    Just my 2¢, of course.

EDIT: Whoops, I mixed up Google’s and MS’s LLM, I guess. I don’t think I’ve ever actually used Copilot.

  • The Flintstones, for what it’s worth, came out in a time before cartoons were seen as “for kids” by default.

Mmyeah, I really can’t agree with that. I’d say instead that there was a distinctly ‘all ages’ intention and reception to the first popular animated cartoons, which were shown in movie theatres dating back to the silent movie era. Adults appreciated the novel technology, and kids could enjoy the simple plots and depictions. But I believe that over the years, adult audiences lost much interest in the format outside of various masterpieces such as Disney movies, leaving cartoons as a distinctly child-oriented treat, on the whole.

Indeed, part of the revolutionary aspect of The Flintstones is that it turned that formula completely upside down, airing the series on prime time and being sophisticated in plot enough that adult audiences could enjoy the stories equally as much as other sitcoms of the time. Really, that’s one of the biggest deals about the show, later paving the way for The Simpsons, South Park and a slew of others to specialise in cartoons that were probably more adult-oriented than kid-intentioned.

  • Just for fun, I tried a test in one such service below. I chose the ‘keep vocals and music, stripping out noise/etc’ option. It seems to have greatly improved the vocals, while sadly losing the music. See what you think:

EDIT: (see alt DL link in comment below)

NOTE: that’s without fiddling with any settings, which likely would have produced a better result.

So, far as I can tell, most online services of this type seem to be paid, if that works for you. And yeah-- in previous examples of excellent preservation results, I did get the sense that most were ‘DIY,’ with all the custom hardware & software that entailed.

Or at least, they hired human restorers or mixing engineers to do the work. So yeah… it seems that in order to get a quality result, at least some money needs to change hands.

  • That you don’t like the song, I cannot comment on.

TBH, I could barely even hear it. I mean, I get that going from wax to digital is a big leap in itself, just that as I recall it, some similar AI-restoration projects have produced much richer end results, with more clean highs & lows, and less ambient noise. But yeah, that’s just me. Possibly I’m remembering poorly.

In any case, I enjoy history and learning about history, so I do appreciate your taking the trouble to share this. Thank you.
