Unlike Linux, whose recent embrace of AI in the codebase is worrying to say the least, you flat-out cannot submit AI-generated code to NetBSD.

NetBSD even explicitly banned AI from their codebase to boot, as quoted from their Commit Guidelines:
Code generated by a large language model or similar technology, such as GitHub/Microsoft’s Copilot, OpenAI’s ChatGPT, or Facebook/Meta’s Code Llama, is presumed to be tainted code, and must not be committed without prior written approval by core.
Unlike Linux, whose recent embrace of AI in the codebase is worrying to say the least, you flat-out cannot submit AI-generated code to NetBSD unless it’s approved in writing*.
*originally in another reply, but deleted that and moved it here.

Probably shouldn’t? How 'bout definitely shouldn’t, ditto for Twitter in general. Give ATproto shit all you want but at least you can move to an independent PDS with it.
Granted ActivityPub is still ideal over ATproto, but both are better than a centralized black box.

FreeBSD has been on a bit of a glowup arc too though, at least for general desktop use. No, but really, there needs to be a viable third option other than Windows and Linux in the desktop PC space.

Yeah, the OEM deals in themselves are shady as fuck once you think about it for a couple seconds.

One more reason to restrict Windows to a VM and run Linux or some other *nix on the host for a baremetal OS if you want or need to run it at all.

Oh the irony… A company known for spying on its users and selling that to data brokers blocking spyware.

Really? AI companies going Herbalife now? Because this reminds me of how Herbalife fronts would typically pop up.
I mean, this is straight out of Herbalife’s playbook for luring new marks fresh off the street into their pyramid scheme, c’mon now…

I’m sure MS didn’t think of that when abbreviating their executables as exes.

It’s optional for now except in S-mode, assuming MS isn’t legally forced to enable S-mode by default and block ‘sideloading’ of downloaded exes in Texas.

The hell with that, fuck you MS.

(4) “Mobile device” means a portable, wireless electronic device, including a tablet or smartphone, capable of transmitting, receiving, processing, and storing information wirelessly that runs an operating system designed to manage hardware resources and perform common services for software applications on handheld electronic devices.
Given the existence of handheld PCs, which just so happen to run the same OS as desktops and laptops, if handheld PCs are classed under the same category as Android and iOS devices, this has me worried that desktops and laptops will be ensnared in this as collateral damage too.

I’d say ‘good luck forcing this on PCs,’ but given handheld PCs would technically count as ‘mobile devices,’ doesn’t this mean desktops and laptops will get ensnared in this as collateral damage too? Like, are you going to have to show ID just to download an exe in Windows or run a sudo apt install (program) or equivalent command in Linux now? Assuming Windows non-S and Linux aren’t banned and PCs aren’t restricted to only running Windows S so you have to use a corporate app store on PCs in Texas like you do on Android or iOS devices?
Also, given this law might effectively kill F-droid and other alt app stores, and Google themselves wanna kill F-droid and other alt app stores, I wonder if Google did some lobbying to get this passed.

Welp, it was fun while it lasted for Arduino.

Good thing Linux distros can be forked, so devs who might have a target on their backs can theoretically fork NixOS and run away with that.
If there was ever a better reason to set up Home Assistant if you want a smart home…
