Your work email, slack, google drive, or any other account given to you by your job should not be expected to be private.

There’s a small legal carve out for health data through your employer health insurance and one or two others probably, but its well within your company’s rights to see the communications that are done through company resources.

    Work in security.

We have been able to do this since the beginning. No need to clutch your pearls.

It is just https traffic. We have been collecting and decrypting this since the late 2000s.

Remember, your work computer is not at all private. We have telemetry on EVERYTHING you do with your Corp laptop. Been this way for a long time.

I’m a huge personal privacy advocate, until my job is IT security and then I’m evil Michel Foucault and your corporate laptop is my personal panopticon. Oftentimes because the job is to protect customer privacy and information first.

I don’t normally care what you’re doing on your computer, until what you’re doing is:

      • installing cracked games with keylogging malware
      • falling for banal and obvious phishing emails
      • installing Russian malware because an OF model told you to
      • looking up celebrities and influencers to see what their health insurance claims are
      • looking up your Ex to spy on them (police love this one weird trick!)
      • gambling and/or playing markets all day
      • storing your personal vacation photos (and pornography…) on shared company servers
      • and this is just the tip of the ridiculous iceberg of shenanigans I’ve run into. The companies that promise to safe guard your privacy are full to bursting with idiots that don’t care about your data and would abuse the slightest amount of power available to them if it would save them 5 seconds or reward them in any way.

Anthropic says Smart Reports shouldn’t be used to evaluate employees, then lets management attach names to their Claude sessions. Apparently workplace surveillance becomes ethical if you put a disclaimer on it. The real innovation here is outsourcing micromanagement to the machine.

AI can make decisions and micromanage. What’s stopping the higher ups from replacing lower management now?

Kissassery, mostly. Why have one AI inflate your ego when you can have twelve department heads and one AI stroke your ego?

Not one metric has ever once failed to be weaponized by management. The main decision we make at my company to determine what metrics are even allowed to be used is “are we willing to give any random manager the ability to fire someone from our own personal staff because of this reason.”

This is the type of news that makes me smile. Yes. I would love for these hack AI regurgitating “consultants” LARPing as CEO’s on LinkedIn to ruin their businesses because they don’t understand basic social psychology. I’d love for my competitors to blindly allow their management to engage with this practice. I’m sick of these mouthbreathers having the funds to engage with my company and wasting my management staff’s time trying to sell them on frivolous bullshit. Become insolvent and go bag fries FFS.

Could we like…stop pretending that this wasn’t the plan all along?

The AS cartel isn’t investing what are already trillions of dollars in that technology because they want humanity to prosper, or because they hope commoners will pay a miserly monthly subscription. They are doing it because they know that middle managers will use it to get rid of you. If that’s not possible or feasible, then at least squeeze you out. That requires invasive monitoring. I mean, obviously, right ?

Pretty sure you can‘t do that in the EU. Your boss is not even allowed to give AI details about you or consult it about you. The thought that Anthropic wants Claude to become your supervisor is deranged and dystopian.

Even an AI slob-coder wouldn’t be able to get implementing that feature wrong:

    fprintf(stderr, "Work done: None.\n");

Micromanagement to a whole new level.

Is it really any different than companies having full access to your email, teams chats, and other correspondence tools provided by the company?

The only thing protecting us before was “who has the time to analyze all the data we gather about you?”.

Without analysis how could they tell that you consistency take an extra 1.45 minutes to clock back in from lunch when you eat Taco Bell. Schedule a colon cancer screening, while also increasing your health insurance premium along with your estimated new risk level due to your sub optimal life choices? This is all needed to insure you last meat bags with jobs perform to shareholder expectations.

Well guess what LLMs are really good at?

There’s a pile of products that already monitor LLM use, prompts, data sent, etc. There’s a whole branch of cyber called AISPM tnat deals with it.
