I’ve been downloading most videos I want to watch with Jdownloader. If I really like a channel I’ll subscribe to a Patreon or something along those lines. Yes ads suck, but creators need money to keep on creating!
Not when they’re peddling bullshit just for money. It’s one thing to promote something you actually use, but most are bullshit promos just for money. Not interested. You steal my attention to peddle bullshit, expect me to block it. Look at the woman who was talking about her house burning down and put a protein powder and in the middle. Wt actual fuck.
And now they don’t disclose they’re advertisements, no thanks, gfy. Private equity buying channels to sell shit.

Yep. I guess the duration wasted on the ads is probably much longer than that delay. I can live with a small wait in exchange for keeping my sanity.
Honestly, I can wait longer than the Ads run for to not have them shoved down my throat.
My mother wonders why I have such a vendetta against advertisements. She got an ad on a YouTube video convincing her with a onslaught of fake pop-ups she had to update her PDF reader. Lord knows what would have happened if she had clicked it. If the only way to receive your product is to watch an ad, I’m going somewhere else full atop.
That is the major problem with ads. Being Obnoxious is one thing, but a noticable amount of ads are either phishing, or even outright malware. To protect against those is the most important job of an adblocker. It is an important tool of defense.
Honestly, I can wait for longer than the Ads would take, to not have them shoved down my throat.
I’m going to take this opportunity to soapbox about YouTube Morphe
If you’re an android user, it’s the replacement for revanced. All the devs left revanced after a falling out with the lead maintainer so they hard forked revanced into morphe. Now it gets daily updates and is leagues ahead of revanced, where it gets the vast majority of dev attention.
Revanced is maintained by one angry guy now. People want to help but can’t deal with his attitude so he gets piecemeal PRs. He’s taken to stealing code from morphe without attribution, so the morphe team (unwisely IMO) DMCA’d revanced. It’s why there’s been no development for over a month. He can’t steal code (including typos lol) without violating the cease and desist.
If nothing changes revanced is going to be abandonware soon… It doesn’t have the dev attention morphe gets, and donations are moving to morphe now too…
There’s also a whole rant about how that lead dev for revanced is the main mod on the subreddit and bans anyone for saying “Morphe” “Morpheus” “M” .etc
Yes, saying “M” will get you permanently banned from there…

For anyone else doing it, after the install is complete, disable YouTube in the system app settings then associate Morphe with all YouTube links (in the morphe system app settings).
Happy to answer any questions if anyone else is doing it as the process is fresh in my head.

And their stupid idea to “translate” the audio. No thanks, I want to listen to the original. If I ever want to listen to a robovoice reading a bad translation, I will gladly tell you.
Youtube has a problem with languages in general.
They are Americans, they are unable to understand that a single person knows more than a single language.
They force audio translations, they force title translations.
Sometimes even, subtitles turn on without any input.
No I don’t want a shitty AI dub. No, I don’t want a shitty AI translation. No, I don’t want subtitles taking up valuable screen space.
Even worse is the fact they don’t understand that languages have dialects.
Oh this guy speaks Spanish? He will LOVE the Mexican AI dub. After all, there are more Mexicans than Spaniards, and mexico is right next to america. Why would he not want to listen to a Mexican dub? Way better than the original English. He’s too foreign to know what English even is!
Gotta love when YouTube auto dubs a video in my own native language. I guess it’s impossible for someone to speak 2 languages
That’s hilarious given that any “interruptions” while using ad block are significantly less than ads that are over a minute long with zero nutritional content.
Time is my most valuable resource. I’ll not be spending it watching ads.
Especially since they keep making them longer, unskippable, and frequent. I’ll take 10 seconds of “loading” because I grew up on dial up. I’m used to waiting.

That’s why i just pay the premium family plan. Everyone is my house is ad free and my car YouTube music is also ad free. I’m can’t listen to an ad on my 10 min commute.

Artificial interruptions. They also lag your browser if it isn’t shitty chrome. I created a virtual card and loaded it with a couple dollars and tried the free trial to see if it was firefox causing the lag. Guess what? YT magically was loading fine on firefox.
The real kicker is I’m not experiencing interruptions at all. I’d pick this little pop-up hanging on my screen for a few seconds over a loud annoying ad with dumb music and stupid sounding voices any day.
That’s why I like this pop-up. It confirms to me that not only is my ad blocker working to hide their ads, it’s even defeating their “intentional interruptions” scripts. I guess they’re using those to try to convince people to disable / remove their ad blocker? But, I don’t even notice any interruptions. Good job stack of ad blocking software. One of you did the job!
I know why. It’s because I’m routing my request through a European country on the other side of the world and shaving off all the cognitogazard JavaScript and ads before displaying it.
I’ve done a lot of work to make sure i don’t get ads in my various types of media. Because i rarely see them, i feel like i have less patience for them now. If it ever comes to the point where i can’t use youtube without seeing ads, I’ll just not use it anymore.
Google won’t mind seeing me go; they only see people as ad revenue or data points, and they’re not really getting either from me.
What pisses me off about that little box the most, is it loads instantly. Even if everything on the page loads near instantly that box will show up first. I know its because the ad didn’t play so YT freaks out, but if it waited just half a second, it wouldn’t bother me so much.
You can just use the object picker in UBlock to remove the box once and for all.

The funny bit is non-browser clients never have to deal with this shit even when they block ads (GrayJay/Newpipe/YTRevanced)
