Leopards Ate My Face@lemmy.world•'We're a humiliation': Trump voters admit America is now 'objectively worse'English
9·2 days agoWhat about a focus group of 10 large language models?
Your school didn’t have computer labs? Ours had a bunch that were nearly always empty with all the software you would need for every course. I used them just because the screens were more comfortable than a laptop and it was often quiet in there.

45·9 days agoLol, they have made a deal with the Internets favorite protection racket.
Let me tell you as both a user and person who scrapes the net, cloud flare is not going to stop this.

Linux@lemmy.ml•Rust Coreutils cp Ended Up Breaking Ubuntu Image Builds With Latest Incompatibility
5·14 days agoI think responding to borrow checker errors is easier than debugging some random segfault
Also I don’t separate the language and it’s build system. I have to use it to write the language it’s an entire kit.
Part of c/cpp problem is it’s build system and dependency story just serves to get in my way instead of letting me write code. The syntax is irrelevant when I’m fucking with some auto conf script because the version on my machine is 0.01 versions different.

29·14 days agoThis was very clearly just a way to accept bribes so I’m sure the biggest losers don’t actually care. The other suckers are just the cherry on top.

245·15 days agoIt is definitely easier.
Don’t try and tell me cargo is not easier than fucking around with the C/CPP build slop I’ve had to screw around with over the years.
The coreutils license is bullshit but let’s not pretend languages have not improved in 50 years.

48·18 days agoYou’re close but it’s actually
“They’ve decided that if I die if I don’t get it then it’s not an abortion, for everyone else it is an abortion”
Small distinction I know but it makes a world of difference.
You could likely actually trim it up a bit to a more simple
“If I get it, it’s not an abortion”

Technology@lemmy.world•Google preps Pixel ‘Audio Memory’ that ambiently tracks your ‘important conversations,’ like AI notetaker pinsEnglish
5·26 days agoAll the toilets in your building / neighborhood were installed all the same time and your need for a toilet seat likely matches the average lifespan of that item. They see this, they see you bought a toilet seat.
They don’t sell ads directly for you though. The do sell ads to people your age in your location that might need a toilet seat. They might also know that that item has a high return rate. On the chance you return it they want to sell the opportunity to advertise to you for more to potential customers (ad buyers)
It just goes on and on.

502·26 days agoThe reality is they don’t need to listen.
They have so much data on users.
- how old you are
- where you are
- what you last bought
- when you just bought it
- who you are near
- what they bought
- what the people around you are searching and what ads they are seeing
- what is being bought and sold by everyone around you
- when you sleep
- what you eat
- the things you are chatting about on MMS
- where you go
- when you’re home and when and where you work
It just goes on and on and on.
People think they are unique but they are not as unique as they think.
