It is almost always best to ‘wait and see’ for most things.
But of course if everyone did that - it would never have taken off in the first place.

7·14 days agoWindows 11 came out before AI entered the dogma.
They are using Windows 11 to push TPU to control your hardware for reason that will become clearer in the future. They also pushed it to sell new hardware and thus more licenses. Windows 11 demands you buy a new laptop despite your perfectly functioning one.
We’ve hit the point where PCs aren’t getting that much faster, and so people aren’t upgrading as much. This makes a few powerful people very upset.

In 2023 The penetration is ~20% so by these metrics they did double the number of touch enabled PCs. It just took a decade too long.
In fact in 2012 - Intel did a study that said 80% of users prefer a touch screen. https://www.neowin.net/news/intel-80-percent-of-pc-users-prefer-touch-screens/

271·14 days agoYes it is very ill advised as people often do important tasks on the PC including banking. In fact most people will delegate their most vulnerable tasks to be on the PC rather than the potentially more-secure mobile device.
To put this in perspective. There were 1,360 Vulnerabilities reported in 2024 for Windows. Not a single one will be patched after end-of-life.
There were unreported vulnerabilities that were waiting for end-of-life to be exploited.
If I release my malware a month before EOL and it’s caught then I have to start from scratch. If I do it after EOL then I can reap the benefits forever.

91·15 days agoBecause most business owners don’t want to go to the expense of hiring a dedicated IT guy to manage a bunch of computers that their staff don’t know how to operate.
Most businesses already have a “dedicated IT guy to manage a bunch of computers that their staff don’t know how to operate.”
And the computers are Windows!
People have been using windows for 40 years and most still are not good at it.
That will never change.

It got forced updates at Random hours of the day with no even pretend consent of “Not right now. I’m literally on a phone call”. All the update was to install Candy crush or Facebook. Again
I literally lost out on a job because it shut off to update while I was on a phone interview. Called back and the guy was rude af.

I have like 4 plans I can choose: Retire 2035, Retire 2045, Retire 2055, Retire 2065 and that’s it.
No options in the portal to do anything else. I can’t choose my stocks, any indexes, anything. The only other page is to change my contribution percent.

If you’ve never had to debug code. Are you really a developer?
There is zero chance you have never written a big so… Who is fixing them?
Unless you just leave them because you work for Infosys or worse but then I ask again - are you really a developer?
