Hey I just saw one of those this morning and didn’t know what it was. Also looked like it was crab walking down the highway.

Lol, well I just spent a few minutes browsing and reading a thread or two. The Riviera Kid isn’t far off: There isn’t a ton happening there. But, with that said, the discussions being had in those threads seem pretty involved. I don’t see much of the old reddit (and sometimes on Lemmy now) low-value insipid posts like: “This!” or “Came here to say that!” There are fairly long, multi-paragraph, drawn-out conversations with some thoughtful replies. I skimmed over a few as they were long and I am not invested in the topic (at this juncture). But it is interesting to see some cerebral discussions without the random silly stuff. Mind you, I do enjoy the silly stuff too. Ergo why I am here. Viva la Lemmy!

Shoot, I forgot all about Tildes until this post. I had an account and even kicked in to support them. Got sidetracked by The Outside and Lemmy and just never went back. I wonder if my account still works…LOL, it does! I’m back on Tildes! lol …eh…maybe I’ll go to The Outside instead…

The consumer lines are total junk and are not even worth repairing, I think. The other nice thing about buying these older laptops is the trove of parts available out there on fleaBay.

Totally get it. I don’t directly recommend buying an HP laptop, but I only mention it as it runs CachyOS fine. This one is a gamer and just happened to be the right price. I would go Thinkpad, then Dell business, then HP business (all used).

I think OP is right that most laptops run Linux fine and the business lines are best. I did have to flash my HP laptop BIOS/firmware using Windows as HP has no Linux tools for this yet. But with that said, I own seven or eight Thinkpads and run different distros (Mint, Cachy, Solus, etc). All work very nicely. I could not discourage you from buying a 480 at all.

I was curious and looked up AdsWizz. They insert ads into digital audio among loads of other stuff. To me this is a nice example of conditions that lead to malware in ads. Especially if they still have not taken the required steps. I will keep blocking ads thankyouverymuch.

In addition to the reasons you’ve brought up, it’s also a public display of violent enforcement in an effort to further subdue the populace.

I didn’t see anyone here mention the spat Linus had with Gamers Nexus. That was stupid and ugly and set me against watching any more of his channel. I was never a regular anyways. Jeff Gearling is far better.

Gotcha. I know someone who knows someone who knows someone who makes the choco bars, but the label says “proprietary blend”. lol. Only they know exactly what’s in them, but it’s mushroom-based and they are sold in Oregon. For other reasons, I tend to believe them about being mushroom derived, but I incorrectly assumed it was sold in the weed stores as the Netherlands did it that way when I visited a while back.
