71·1 month agoAt work we say “i pung it”
Because pinged doesn’t sound right. And pung is more fun.
Another one we haven’t named yet is when an address goes through translation. Is it NATted? “Its been NATted”
Doesn’t feel right.

World News@lemmy.world•Pakistanis who gang-raped French tourist in front of her children after her car ran out of fuel will be executedEnglish
2·2 months agoStating the race isn’t racist, no. But there was also no need to state their race. Does the fact that they were pakistani have any impact on the fact that they raped somebody? Or does it just associate rape with brown people? This appeals to racists and inflames their beliefs that other races are bad. They dont write “two white men” when its two white men, do they?
So yeah, In isolation, it is absolutely not racist. But given all the existing context, and the push to cause division and hatred to distract us from whats going on upstairs, this is absolutely racist.

13·2 months agoThis is a good allegory for the racists claiming the country is theirs and foreigners need to be kicked out.
Are modern brits even brits anymore? If heritage matters so much how like our ancestors are we really?
And there it is. My whole view on life.
People look at me with such skepticism when i talk like this, i just don’t want for crazy money. Sure i want some luxuries in life and want to be comfortable. But i don’t have a clue what i could spend millions and millions on. Especially when there are so many suffering in the world.
But people just cant believe it when i say it. Honestly makes me feel like i grew up on another planet when i see the greed in peoples eyes as they cant cope with the idea that i would give my money away.
Honestly, i would buy a slightly bigger house, a nice holiday, put away a chunk for my kids inheritance and then give the rest away. I dont need all that money. I dont care if people think i am dumb for that. I dont want it. Other people need it.

91·3 months agoAs someone who works in healthcare, in IT, who has been directly involved in the commissioning of an AI designed to spot skin cancers from pictures taken with special lenses attached to iphones. No healthcare provider is using these tools in place of doctors. These AI models are incredibly accurate but the human is still needed to spot false positives. They dont leave diagnostic decisions up to AI. I can tell you that for a fact.

7·3 months agoI didnt think that was the point. Fuck AI is just a slogan representing peoples disdain for corporate types who think chatgpt literally the second coming of jesus and is going to save us all. Its people who are taking LLMs and pretending they can reason and think like humans. People that think they can sack all their staff and replace them with AI. Its more complex than that. You know that, i am certain you do. AI can do somethings very well, and other things it absolutely falls over flat on its face.
Unless i am misunderstanding, this was never about the blanket boycotting of anything AI and it was more about not pretending it is more than it is and shoving down the throats of non consenting consumers.
