News@lemmy.world•Exclusive: Peter Thiel in talk on 'Antichrist' says he told Elon Musk not to give wealth to charity
14·22 days agoThe world’s richest, in his view, think too little about their identities as billionaires and what will become of their treasures after death.
Historically, this is the only thing rich people thought about. Usually they would commission some huge public space like a library or a museum or park or something, and that would carry their name long after they died. I wouldn’t mind seeing more of that rather than just hearing about how unfathomably rich they are online.
Damn, that sounds really good actually

Today I Learned@lemmy.world•TIL that if you search "Password generator, [x] characters, [y] strength" at DuckDuckGo, it will generate a password for you.English
0·29 days agoThis is probably fine. The connection to DDG will be over HTTPS, so a captured packet would need to be decoded first. And if someone were to manage to break the encryption, then they would also need to know what service you used the password for.
Ultimately, it’s more secure to generate locally, but it would be a huge amount of work to get anything usable out of a packet capture

News@lemmy.world•Stephen Miller Shouts Unhinged Message to Gun-Wielding Cops
94·1 month ago“The gangbangers that you deal with, they think that they’re ruthless, they have no idea how ruthless we are,” Miller added.
“They think they’re tough, they have no idea how tough we are. They think that they’re hardcore, we are so much more hardcore than they are, and we have the entire weight of the United States government behind us. What do they have? They have nothing behind them. So we are gonna win, they’re gonna lose.”
This reads like edgy fan fiction. Like, I would fully expect to hear this exact dialogue coming from Shadow the Hedgehog in some weird cop AU

News@lemmy.world•Harris on Trump: ‘We’re dealing with a communist dictator’
22·1 month agoThe democrats just need to run on a platform of “I’m not trump” to win the “left” vote and run a campaign of restoring government services in red states.
This has been proven to be false. Twice within the last decade even

This seems like promising technology, but the figures they are providing are almost certainly fiction.
This has all the hallmarks of a team of researchers looking to score an R&D budget.
