News@lemmy.world•Generals silent as Hegseth ends ‘warrior ethos’ rally speech
2·1 month agoSince the Iraqi military was either defeated on the battlefield or surrendered and US troops pulled Saddam out of a spider hole to drag him off for trial and execution, I’d call that a bad analogy.

News@lemmy.world•Generals silent as Hegseth ends ‘warrior ethos’ rally speech
1·1 month agoI admit I only know the highlights. It would make sense for Hegseth to focus on appearances over substance.

News@lemmy.world•Generals silent as Hegseth ends ‘warrior ethos’ rally speech
5·1 month agoHard to say he’s running the war badly considering that Ukraine still exists 3 years later when most outside observers were wondering if Ukraine would last 3 days.

News@lemmy.world•Hegseth Summoned Military Leaders to Say “FAFO” in Disturbing Speech
3·1 month agoHonestly, most German generals didn’t get purged, they mostly went along with the regime and they were considered reasonably competent during the war. The Soviets on the other hand had a big purge of their senior officers just before WW2 and the war went much worse for them in the beginning than it would have otherwise.
Venezuela is a good modern example of loyalty over competence and it’s the analogy I’ve been warning people about since the last year of Trumps first term. Firing the disloyal and promoting the loyal fucked over their entire government and economy.

News@lemmy.world•Hegseth Summoned Military Leaders to Say “FAFO” in Disturbing Speech
2·1 month agoDamn, that was an incredible amount of boot you just licked. Trump and Hegseth are going after people for Political Disloyalty. But to answer part of your bad faith question, Americans remain Americans regardless of being in gangs or being black. And terrorists/talibans/cartels are NOT the people they’ve been brutalizing with the new Gestapo.

News@lemmy.world•Journalist hospitalized after attempting to photograph ICE agents in public elevator
171·1 month agoNot entirely true. Huge numbers of leftists own guns, it’s mostly liberals/centrist that drank the gun prohibition koolaid. Look what it’s got them? Cause it’ll never happen here, remember? Oh, whoops. I see people realizing their mistake most quickly with black people; black panthers and other community defense groups in black neighborhoods have been making a come back. Pray more people get on the band wagon. And if you can’t legally own guns, there are alternatives. Crossbows, compound bows, muzzle loaders. Being armed in some way is the best way to keep your communities safe from outside violence.

News@lemmy.world•Journalist hospitalized after attempting to photograph ICE agents in public elevator
4·1 month agoIf things get worse slowly, people will continue to make excuses for why they can’t. If things get worse quickly, the odds of a general strike increase as people get more desperate.

1·1 month agoThe short answer (ba dum, tisssss) is that some forms of mutual funds buy a little bit of every stock rather than picking and choosing. Then, for reasons never really made clear, they let other investors borrow those stocks as long as they return them later.

1·1 month agoAlot of debt gets bundled into bonds or other investment vehicles and sold. So small retail investors, retirement funds, etc end up holding the bag. Sometimes the banks lose, but they can take tax write offs and if the loses are too great, they can often get bailed out by the government.

Well fuck the UK but lolz at 4chan. Once, long ago, they were a place to watch faces of death type stuff. And it went downhill from there.
