They need shitload of 40mm cannons with programmable ammunition.

Meh. So realistic attack would be that you know someone you want to track has one of those 17 models (which is hard to tell by just looking at the headphones) and never paired it with Android and he carries them everywhere. You force-pair and now you can track them. It’s pretty silly as a random attack because why would you track a random person. It’s silly to use it to record conversations because from 15 m there are easier methods to do it. I would say the risk that this will be used to actually track/record someone is low.

No, from what I’m reading they just pump money into it senselessly. VR/AR devices are $1B a year market and they pumped like $18B into it in a year. They just don’t care because they make so much money they can burn it.

You’re right, a lot of it probably went to the devs but from what I’m reading the cash burn is so bad because it’s extremely chaotic in there, lot’s of bad decisions, canceled projects, lot’s of directors swapping places. No idea what part of it went to low ranking devs and what went to consultants and building useless prototypes.

Yeah, but why ask Gemini about it’s priorities? I can just lie about it.

If a company can dump $100B into failed project and still be profitable they have too much money. Jesus, imagine would would happen if this money went to the workers instead…

deliberately misleading humans
Yeah… You dumb.

So you think Gemini told you the truth here? How do you know it’s not just scheming?

Here’s some documentation: https://developers.googleblog.com/under-the-hood-universal-commerce-protocol-ucp/
What this does is if offers a API for agents to communicate with online stores: check products, apply coupons, process transactions and so on. And the critics say that this will be used to funnel more data about the user to the store so it can “adjust” prices. Which is nothing new. Companies already are using all the data they can get their hands on to screw you. If you’re naive enough to give data about to you AI bot controlled by a corporation and then send this bot to a store controlled by another corporation to do shopping for you then yeah, you will be screwed.

Ok, I will say it: this is nothing new. Even the scale is not that new. During the protests after George Floyd murder we have seen police shoot rubber bullets at people indiscriminately, 20 people suffered serious eye injuries. In 2024 police killed 1200 people. Between 2022 and 2024 15.000 people died in prisons. We have seen police target random people for illegal stops all the time, they would arrest people under false pretenses (arresting only for resisting arrest for example) all the time, drag people out of their cars, beat them up and torture them all the time and they would almost never face any consequences. Yet watching videos from ICE raids it looks like people still believe the are somehow protected from violence, that ICE will respect their rights, that if they are US citizen they have some immunity to all this. Were people ignorant of all the police violence all this time? Don’t they realize ICE can and will simply kidnap them, beat them up and drop them off somewhere without consequences? Because they do look surprised when it happens when it’s the least surprising thing there is. It’s shocking, yes, police violence in US was always shocking, but it’s not surprising. Would you be surprised that a biker gang beat you up after you insulted them?
My point is that if you’re interacting with ICE you should be aware that they will murder you if then can find an excuse and that you don’t have any rights. If you’re protesting protest peacefully and avoid interactions. If you want to confront them do it like you would confront a violent street gang. It’s baffling that people get tough with ICE and then are surprised they got hurt.

I actually believe him this was just a stupid joke but I still think they should deny him entry and reject him as an ambassador because fuck him, that’s why. Don’t give those fuckers any benefit of the doubt, use any excuse you can get to hurt them.

I wish I was still so naive I believed EU has some secret plan to defeat US. Especially Germany, country that was blind to the threat Russia posed for two decades. Yeah, I’m sure they will go to war over Greenland now…
It’s also funny that they are open about sending this tiny group of soldiers, something they could easily hide, but are hiding the plan to send a bigger force, something that will be impossible to hide. Kind of silly, really. Almost like thinking that Germany would commit any permanent force to Greenland without informing their own public.

It just says that they will be participating in some exercises. Nothing about permanent force.

chatbots are not agentic AI so it’s a bit unrelated.

So you just said something 100% wrong and then doubled down on it despite not knowing much about it but the problem is that I’m smug… Yeah…
Age verification would be only required for services that are considered high risk for grooming and would have to be done in a way that preserves privacy and all the rights guaranteed by GDPR regulation. It’s still just a proposal, nothing was approved. Personally I don’t like it but I see it as a reasonable compromise for a regulation aimed at protecting children. Other than that we can simply ignore the issue and do nothing. And I do hope nothing will be done but since they were working on a law that was supposed to do something it’s normal they come up with something like that. Taking this and saying “EU doesn’t respect citizen’s rights” is in best case ignorant, in worst misinformation.

"Several people were arrested for declining to give up their seats on Montgomery buses. Maxwell Air Force Base employee Viola White was arrested in 1944, and Mary Wingfield was arrested in 1949. Teenager Mary Louise Smith was arrested in October 1954. In March 1955, Claudette Colvin, a fifteen-year-old student at Booker T. Washington Magnet High School, was also arrested. Other arrests included Aurelia Browder on April 29, 1955, and Susie McDonald on October 21, 1955.
Supreme Court ordered the integration of Montgomery’s buses on December 20, 1956"
12 years of arresting black women before anything changed. 12 fucking years.

You have to be talking about some different Chat Control because the one I read doesn’t allow anything like that. At least I think it doesn’t. Can you point me to the specific part that covers it? Maybe I missed it.
But seriously, I can see you read some scary headlines that have nothing to do with reality. Of course you’re not going to read the legislation yourself and hearing it form some random guy on lemmy will not change your mind because you read it on some random blog so it has to be true but for anyone interested, the proposed law specifically says that “the regulation shall not prohibit, make impossible, weaken, circumvent or otherwise undermine cybersecurity measures, in particular encryption, including end-to-end encryption”.

Over the years I tried Kino, Kdenlive, cinerella, openshot, shotcut and lightworks. Not buecause I wanted but because every couple of months some bug would make one of them crash constantly and I had to look for a new one. I think it’s more stable now and all/most of them are usable for simple editing. No idea which one is the strongest now though.
Obviously he just picks the one he hates the most.
