  • Just to be clear, your point and argument, are that I am correct, but I am wrong because exactly as I mentioned, Europe could have done better if they bolstered their defences and prepared?

It feels like you’ve just taken my comment as an attack on Europe, but have no real criticisms of my points.

My statement would be less true, not more true in 2023, because the point is, the longer they go without having done so, the more dire the situation becomes.

  • Given that Europe has had 4 years to start cranking up its military power and has failed to do so meaningfully, and the US looks like a vassal state of Russia at the moment, I feel this may become an inevitability if Europeans don’t stop bickering about where exactly gets to make what, and starts actually making things, like with the 2 modern fighter projects (as Europe cannot make its own 5th yet alone 6th gen fighters), or the joint European (France and Germany mainly) tank project.

  • I feel like some of the people here should consider why we all know she would vote the same way if an election was held immediately after making this post.

They are getting something that they desire more than lower grocery costs or anything sane things any sane person would value.

They are getting to hurt marginalized people with their votes.

This is their single voter issue, and its the reason why no matter how much they’ve shot themselves in the foot, they’ll buy that 500 dollar advil their insurance denied coverage for and load up another shell.

They don’t evaluate politicians based on if they’re happy. They evaluate politicians based on if who they hate feel sad.

  • Because Europe has had half a decade to fill the void and they can’t get it done and continue to act like cost efficiency is the name of the game.

Europeans seem to want to rag on about the US being irrelevant while being completely unwilling to put their money where their mouths are.

I am very supportive of Europe, but they need to wake up to that reality and stop bickering about pennies.

They should have been at wartime production years ago, and yet they still don’t even have a 5th let alone 6th gen fighter jet.

The fact that the USA, who is currently chopping its own legs off, is managing to provide just about equally to the Ukrainian war effort to you, who are literally neighbours, should be embarrassing and sobering, but instead people just keep complaining and expecting the US to both shut up, and fix it.

  • Right, it would be done before the US invades, to prevent them from invading. Nuclear weapons are deterrence, you don’t want to actually use them.

I fear my point is being missed.

My point was in response mainly to this last sentence:

I do think a nuclear deterrent would be ideal, but that’s a couple of steps of escalation further down the line I think.

My point is that it cant be further down, because if you are down that far, its too late. We’ve seen this was most countries that became under the gun when they would benefit dearly from having nuclear weapons of their own.

Notably, if Ukraine did so before they would have been fine, but during, they have no chance.

Iran similarly has a difficult time.

Its not about the nation, its about the fact that if you are at a point where you feel the heat is on, its too late to build nukes. Now is the time to build them.

  • Hitler didn’t get as far as he did due to a lack of military buildup and militarism among European nations what are talking about?

He absolutely did. That, and concession after concession to appease that which cannot be appeased. He got very far because people kept at it with the “lets just be reasonable here” sentiments that only work if your opponent operates logically like a machine or even a traditional bureaucracy.

He got as far as he did because Britain and allies didn’t see him as a threat because they had no problems with either his domestic policies and his beginning foreign conquests weren’t deal breaking or a true threat to their power.

    ???

They most definitely thought he was a threat, but one they could contain without force and through appeasement.
